Democrats agitated for this fight for months.
Liberals finally got their wish.
And then Chuck Schumer set one ultimatum that will leave you speechless.
At the start of the current term of Congress, Democrats introduced legislation to rig elections and allow for massive voter fraud.
What Republicans called the “Corrupt Politicians Act” would gut voter ID laws, mandate shady ballot harvesting schemes in all 50 states and allow for universal mail-in balloting.
Republicans filibustered the bill which led to Democrats pushing to trigger the nuclear option and eliminate the 60-vote threshold to end debate on legislation.
In a “Dear Colleague” letter sent to his fellow Democrats, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced a new push to ram a federal takeover of elections through the Senate.
Schumer seized on the events of January 6 as the genesis of this power grab.
“As we all are witnessing, the attacks on our democracy have not ceased. In fact, they have only accelerated. Much like the violent insurrectionists who stormed the US Capitol nearly one year ago, Republican officials in states across the country have seized on the former president’s Big Lie about widespread voter fraud to enact anti-democratic legislation and seize control of typically non-partisan election administration functions,” Schumer wrote.
Schumer promoted the false claim that the largely unarmed mob that entered the Capitol for a couple of hours threatened to overthrow American democracy.
“While these actions all proceed under the guise of so-called ‘election integrity’, the true aim couldn’t be more clear. They want to unwind the progress of our Union, restrict access to the ballot, silence the voices of millions of voters, and undermine free and fair elections. They wish to propagate the Big Lie perpetuated by the former president that our elections are not on the level,” Schumer added.
Schumer then announced a deadline of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday as the deadline to vote on eliminating the filibuster to pass this bill.
“The fight for the ballot is as old as the Republic. Over the coming weeks, the Senate will once again consider how to perfect this union and confront the historic challenges facing our democracy. We hope our Republican colleagues change course and work with us. But if they do not, the Senate will debate and consider changes to Senate rules on or before January 17, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, to protect the foundation of our democracy: free and fair elections,” Schumer concluded.
Schumer also promoted the Big Lie that states passing voter ID laws or rolling back pandemic-era emergency rules that allowed for more mail-in voting were denying Americans the right to vote.
Republican state legislatures passing election integrity laws are not taking away anyone’s ability to vote.
Democrats know their voters are upset over the fact that Joe Manchin won’t support Joe Biden’s nearly five-trillion-dollar socialist spending spree.
So Schumer is trying to fire up the base to vote in the 2022 elections by setting up a doomed vote on changing the filibuster so Democrats can rally their base behind the idea of needing to elect more Senate Democrats so they have the votes to eliminate the filibuster and pass their voter fraud bill before the 2024 contest.
