He thought he was in the clear.
But he was not prepared for reality to show up at his door.
Now, Cuomo said these three words that made Trump see red.
On the first night of the Democratic National Convention, the Democrats decided to let Governor Cuomo speak about his response to the coronavirus in New York.
Currently, New York remains a hotbed for the virus, containing more cases than the vast majority of the rest of the world.
New York alone accounts for over 30 percent of the COVID-19 deaths in America.
However, Cuomo either refuses to see the truth or is adamantly denying it to save face.
During his speech, he stated:
“New Yorkers were ground zero for the COVID virus, and have gone from one of the highest infection rates on the globe to one of the lowest,” he said. “We climbed the impossible mountain, and right now, we are on the other side.”
According to data released by the CDC, that statement is far from the truth. As of Wednesday, New York still has almost 250,000 confirmed cases.
Yet Cuomo claims New York has almost no COVID-19 cases at the moment.
In addition to denying the numbers, Cuomo tried to shift the blame onto President Trump.
He stated:
“The virus had been attacking us for months before they even knew it was here…We saw the failure of a government that tried to deny the virus, then tried to ignore it, and then tried to politicize it.”
Cuomo claimed Trump was hiding information about the virus from the people, which in turn caused the outbreak.
He also tried to shift the blame on Europe of all places, saying “the European virus infected the Northeast while the White House was still fixated on China.”
So, according to Cuomo, the virus came from Europe and the President hid information for political gain.
This completely ignores the fact that China covered up the virus’s existence during the World Health Organization’s meeting back in December of 2019.
This also goes directly against his earlier statements where he praised President Trump’s response to the virus.
Back in April, he stated:
“What the federal government did working with states was a phenomenal accomplishment. We bent the curve. We flattened the curve. Government did it. People did it, but government facilitates people’s actions, right?”
However, Cuomo switched his views for political gain.
He knew he would be rightly blamed for the state New York is in, so he switched his speech to shift the blame to Trump and keep his standing within the Democratic Party.
The Wall Street Journal published their investigation into New York’s failures to contain the virus, and the results are more than shocking.
They identified numerous ways both Cuomo and de Blasio failed to contain the spread of the virus and stated their reaction “was marred by missed warning signs and policies that many health-care workers say put residents at greater risk and led to unnecessary deaths.”
Despite what Cuomo claims now, his response to the coronavirus was anything but “beautiful.”
