Texas Congressman Dan Crenshaw is trying to be the new John McCain.
But now all hell is about to break loose.
And Dan Crenshaw is worried you will see the one video that could end his career.
Many establishment Republicans view Texas Congressman Dan Crenshaw as their best bet to shift the party back to the Mitt Romney/John McCain/George W. Bush version of liberal Republicanism.
Crenshaw’s served heroically in war as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan and the Mitch McConnells of the world bet that Crenshaw’s resume can sell John McCain and anti-Trumpism to the base.
But Crenshaw just hit a major roadblock.
At a recent event, a young girl asked Crenshaw about comments Crenshaw made on the Jocko Podcast where Crenshaw equated Jesus Christ to a comic book character as opposed to “real” heroes like Rosa Parks.
“The most important thing here is that we have important hero archetypes that we look up to. Jesus is a hero archetype, Superman is a hero archetype. Real characters too, I could name a thousand, Rosa Parks and Ronald Reagan too,” the young girl quoted Crenshaw as saying.
“I can’t wrap my head around this,” the girl added.
Instead of answering the question or clarifying his comment, Crenshaw exploded at the girl.
“I’ll help you, put a period after the word Jesus and don’t question my faith,” Crenshaw raged.
The crowd was not happy and jeered Crenshaw for that answer.
“Don’t say things like that to a ten-year-old girl!” someone shouted.
“You moron!” another attendee yelled.
Crenshaw continued to argue with the crowd as opposed to answering the question.
“You guys can ask questions about all of these things and I’ll answer that but don’t question my faith,” Crenshaw added.
The girl held her ground and pointed out she was using a direct quote from Crenshaw.
“I can question your faith if this is what you said,” the girl shot back.
“Nowhere in that quote am I saying that Jesus isn’t real, that’s a ridiculous statement,” Crenshaw responded.
But the young girl refused to budge responding that “you say that on a podcast and you can say this here.”
This is not the first time Crenshaw found himself on the wrong side of the GOP base.
Crenshaw recently called conservatives that made opposing endless wars the centerpiece of their foreign policy “idiots.”
Donald Trump made opposition to endless wars one of the main selling points of his successful 2016 presidential campaign.
Establishment Republicans like Crenshaw support the John McCain foreign policy of waging decades-long wars of nation building in every Middle East country they can get away with invading.
Crenshaw also expressed support for red flag confiscation laws.
Democrats drummed up anti-gun propaganda about red flag confiscation laws after the tragedy in Parkland, Florida in 2018.
Crenshaw spoke favorably of red flag confiscation laws that allow anti-gun judges to issue orders permitting government agents to barge into homes and seize firearms.
There is talk that Dan Crenshaw may run for president in 2024.
If Crenshaw does take that plunge, Republican voters will surely ask Crenshaw about these various comments.
