President Trump has repeatedly demanded that former FBI Director James Comey be investigated for illegally leaking classified information.
So far, the former FBI Director had managed to escape accountability for his actions.
But that all changed when this dark secret about James Comey was revealed, and now all hell is breaking loose.
Comey was in for a surprise when Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Chuck Grassley quizzed Horowitz about the status of an investigation into Comey’s alleged mishandling of classified information when he leaked the contents of his memos about conversations with President Trump to a friend.
Grassley asked Horowitz:
“Comey said he did not expect a report on his handling of classified information because, ‘That’s frivolous.’ I don’t happen to think that it is frivolous. Question number one, Mr. Horowitz, are you investigating the handling of his memo and does that include the classification issues, and should Mr. Comey expect a report when it’s complete?”
Horowitz answered
“We received a referral on that from the FBI. We are handling that referral and we will issue a report when the matter is complete, consistent with the law and rules that are — a report that’s consistent and takes those into account.”
This is exactly what President Trump and his supporters have been calling for.
Comey had testified that he leaked his memos to Daniel Richman – a Columbia University law school professor – in order to force the appointment of a special counsel.
The former FBI Director stated,
“I understood this to be my recollection recorded of my conversation with the president. As a private citizen, I thought it important to get it out.”
But where Comey has run into trouble are the reports that his memos contained classified information.
The Hill reported that four of his memos contained information marked at the secret or confidential level.
Comey’s troubles began when he gave Hillary Clinton a pass on charges that she mishandled classified intelligence by sending emails on her private server.
Now similar charges threaten to send Coney to the slammer.
Trump supporters have been pleased with the work of Inspector General Horowitz.
His investigation led to the FBI being forced to produce the text messages between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page who schemed to use the FBI to stop Donald Trump’s election.
And Horowitz’s investigation has led to the firing of former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, as well as the reassignment and resignation of five other officials.
The Inspector General has turned into the most reliable weapon in the fight to drain the swamp.
Comey figured he was in the clear, and Trump supporters had given up on the idea of him ever being held accountable for his actions.
But Horowitz’s testimony makes it clear that Comey is being investigated.
And Horowitz’s body of work indicates that this inquiry will be on the level and not some Deep State whitewash.
