Democrats have one goal: To remove Donald Trump from office.
They are counting on Robert Mueller’s Russian collusion investigation to provide the ammunition to impeach the President.
And one top Democrat let the cat out of the bag on that plan’s chance of success.
Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) is the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Warner has been at the tip of the spear for Democrats on the collusion case.
And now Warner is preparing the public for the fact that his committee will not come up with any evidence of collusion.
In an interview with The New Yorker’s David Remnick, Warner stated that all the Trump campaign’s meetings with various Russians could all just be a coincidence.
The Daily Caller reports:
“The top Democrat on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence acknowledged in a recent interview that contacts between Trump campaign associates and Russians could be “a set of coincidences” rather than collusion.
“I’m reserving my final judgement until we’ve seen all the witnesses we need to see, and we’ve gotten all the facts. So I’m going to hold off,” Virginia Sen. Mark Warner said in an interview with The New Yorker’s David Remnick when asked whether he believes that Trump associates conspired with the Kremlin to influence the 2016 presidential election.
Warner and North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr, the Republican chair of the Senate panel, have since Jan. 2017 led an investigation into Russian interference in the election.
Warner said that the committee is still receiving documents and information for the investigation. The panel is also still conducting interviews of Trump associates. Former Trump aide Sam Nunberg is set to be interviewed this week. “I’m not going to weigh in until we see everyone,” Warner said.
Remnick asked Warner whether he believes members of the campaign directly coordinated with Russians or, instead, whether Trump associates who met with Russians were merely “duped.”
“This may all be simply a set of coincidences or it may be … it was not the sophistication to realize what was happening,” said Warner.”
Democrats have spent every waking moment since the 2016 election hoping for a silver bullet that will take down Donald Trump.
Mueller and three Congressional investigations have yet to produce one.
So Warner – who has access to all the intelligence collected – could be setting up Democrats to prepare themselves for a massive disappointment.
Mueller is unlikely to produce any evidence of collusion.
That is why the special counsel’s investigation has branched off into fishing expeditions about contributions to the inauguration and obstruction of justice.
Will Democrats and the media – who have spent nearly two years building up false hopes that Trump is on the verge of indictment of impeachment – accept the findings of no collusion with the Russians.
There is a very real worry that liberals will riot in the streets like they did after the election and inauguration.
Warner could be trying to smooth the ground so rank-and-file Democrats don’t do any more damage to the country or the party’s electoral chances with a violent outburst when Trump is cleared.
