Intelligent thought isn’t the Democrat’s strong-suit.
They are known for embarrassing themselves consistently.
And a Democrat senator just said something so stupid that CNN had to double take and call her out.
While CNN is known for often not telling the truth, there are occasions they are forced to.
And when Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York was on Chris Cuomo’s show last week, perhaps the craziest example of s Democrat lies was presented.
While talking about the Supreme Court, and Justice Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation, Gillibrand stated that no Democrats voted to confirm Gorsuch.
She was attempting to make the point that Democrats will stand unified against whoever President Trump nominated to replace the soon to be retired Justice Anthony Kennedy.
While Democrats may choose to stand unified against Trump’s nominee, it is factually incorrect that they were unified during Gorsuch’s confirmation fight.
In reality, three Democrats sided with Republicans to confirm Gorsuch.
The three Democrats were Sens. Joe Manchin, Heidi Heitkamp, and Joe Donnelly.
CNN host Chris Cuomo knew this, and called out Gillibrand, asking her
“Are you right that he didn’t get one vote? Didn’t he get three?”
After a momentary pause, Gillibrand realized she was wrong, and acknowledged it, stating that he “might be right.”
But despite making the mistake, she doubled down on her point believing that Democrats would oppose Trump’s nominee on the ground of women’s rights, something she believes Trump doesn’t believe in.
It isn’t even clear who Trump will nominate and many Democrats are mounting a campaign against him.
This is just more proof that most Democrats will stand against everything Trump does, no matter what.
But her belief that Democrats will be unified against Trump’s nominee doesn’t seem to hold much weight against scrutiny.
The reason that three Democrats sided with Trump for Gorsuch’s nomination had to do with the states they represent.
Joe Manchin represents West Virginia, Heidi Heitkamp represents North Dakota, and Joe Donnelly represents Indiana.
The voters in all three of those states are strongly pro-Trump.
In order for any Democrat to remain elected in either of those states, they have to be seen as more moderate than the modern democrat.
If a Democrat in a red state is seen as too far to the left, the voters will very likely turn on them, especially if President Trump chooses to speak out against them.
That fact is being proven in Montana, where Democrat Senator Jon Tester is being viciously attacked by the President.
While many political pundits believe he can make it through re-election despite Trump’s attacks, nobody disputes the fact that Trump’s negative statements are harming him.
A vote against whoever President Trump nominates could very easily put any red-state Democrat in the same position.
And even if all three of the Democrats who voted for Gorsuch flip, Republicans still have enough votes to confirm Trump’s nominee.
That is thanks to the work of former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who invoked the nuclear action during Obama’s term in office, switching the Senate rules to allow 50 votes, instead of 60, to confirm a judicial nominee.
So regardless of what Democrats do, short of delaying the vote past midterms, Trump will almost definitely get the Supreme Court Justice of his choice.
Do you think Democrats will succeed in blocking Trump’s Supreme Court nominee?
