Democrats played their ace in the hole.
After the Brett Kavanaugh defeat, they reached into their bag of tricks before the 2018 election.
But what the Democrats did left Americans shaking their heads in disbelief.
Taylor Swift Endorses Democrats
Democrats count on Hollywood celebrities to endorse their candidates and drive turnout among young voters.
For years, liberals whined that mega-pop star Taylor Swift refused to get involved in politics.
But that all changed with one Instagram post.
Swift dove into the 2018 election by trashing Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn.
“Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me,” Swift began.
Swift then rattled off a bunch of left-wing talking points about why she opposes Blackburn.
She wrote, “She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry.”
Finally, Swift concluded her rant by endorsing Democrat Phil Bredesen.
“I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives. Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values.”
Donald Trump Responds
Reporters grilled Trump about Swift blasting Blackburn.
Trump responded by saying Swift clearly doesn’t know anything about Blackburn.
“She’s a tremendous woman,” Trump said. “I’m sure Taylor Swift has nothing or doesn’t know anything about her.”
He also added that he was no longer as big of a fan of her as he used to be.
“Let’s say that I like Taylor’s music about 25 percent less now,” Trump declared.
It was classic Trump.
But Trump was happy to pick this fight.
Trump won in 2016 because he rallied the Americans who felt disrespected by elite institutions.
He channeled their anger against Hollywood, the media, academia, and government into a winning coalition.
Polls Move In The GOP’s Favor
Before the Brett Kavanaugh fight, Democrats held the advantage in which party voters were more fired up to vote in 2018.
Since midterm elections are contests of base mobilization, this led many pundits to predict a “blue wave.”
But that all changed once the Democrats unleashed their politics of personal destruction on Brett Kavanaugh.
Previous surveys had found the Democrats holding a ten point lead in which party voters were more likely to turnout in November.
But new polls now show that the Republicans have narrowed the enthusiasm gap to two points.
The latest round of polling also showed Blackburn pulling away from Bredesen.
A CBS/YouGov survey found her leading him by eight points.
Democrats need to win that seat in order to have any chance of flipping the Senate.
That explains why Swift jumped into the race.
It was their last chance desperation move to motivate what’s left of the Democrat base in Tennessee.
