Democrats rolled into Congress believing they had a mandate to remove Donald Trump from office.
Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer were giddy over the possibility of investigating every inch of the Trump administration until they turned up something to use for articles of impeachment.
But you won’t believe who just slammed the breaks on this scheme to impeach President Trump.
CNN is the go-to cable channel for Americans suffering from extreme Trump Derangement Syndrome.
The network populates its airwaves with unhinged liberals and insane Never-Trump Republicans who spend 24 hours a day spewing deranged conspiracy theories about the President.
Democrat activists in the press also use platforms like CNN to send messages about strategies to elected Democrats.
These two missions – to provide constant negative coverage of Trump to feed the hatred of its audience, and to try to provide the best political advice to Democrats – came into conflict on a recent broadcast of CNN’s far-left ‘New Day’ program.
Political analyst John Avlon, who fancies himself a reasonable centrist—despite agreeing with the left on every policy issue—warned Democrats about moving too quickly on impeaching President Trump.
Left-wing host Alisyn Camerota questioned Avlon about potential areas of investigation for Democrats.
Avalon began with one of the left’s favorite fantasies – that Democrats would get their hands on Donald Trump’s tax returns.
“On the investigatory front, I think the baseline will be how early does the chair of the Ways and Means Committee release Trump’s taxes? I think that’s something that’s clearly within the power and purview. It’s something that needs to be done,” Avlon said.
Camerota asked Avlon why Democrats should wait.
The ‘New Day’ host’s question was based on the left-wing fever dream that Trump’s tax returns hold the secret to discovering payments from Russia as part of a scheme to rig the 2016 election.
But instead of leaping at the chance to say the Democrats should get Trump’s tax returns on day one and impeach the President on day two, Avlon warned that Democrats should cool their jets on impeachment.
Avlon’s message to incoming Speaker Pelosi was to wait for the Mueller report.
“I don’t know that there’s a good reason to wait,” Avlon declared. “I think you get that out early and then, you know, and no one should be an impeachment enthusiast, there are folks on the far left certainly who are. Let’s see what the Mueller report comes forward with, but I think that will be one of Nancy Pelosi’s most difficult jobs is corralling that caucus.”
This is not what CNN viewers expected to hear.
But it could be the message elected Democrats may need to hear.
Impeaching Trump would galvanize the Republican Party going into the 2020 election.
If Republicans saw Democrats launching a partisan power-grab to undo the results of the 2016 election, that would only push fence-sitting voters into Trump’s column.
