The bottom is falling out on the Democrats and their impeachment hoax.
Polls and public sentiment are turning against them.
And now the Democrats just suffered this humiliating impeachment defeat that left Nancy Pelosi in tears.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler scheduled a hearing this week to debate the legal grounds for impeachment.
The hearing was scheduled to take place just 24 hours after the Adam Schiff-run House Intelligence Committee releases their report on their Stalinist show trial proceedings.
Nadler’s committee is calling four legal scholars to testify – Noah Feldman of Harvard Law School, Pamela S. Karlan of Stanford Law School, Michael Gerhardt of the University of North Carolina School of Law and George Washington University Law School’s Jonathan Turley – and invited White House lawyers to participate.
White House Counsel Pat Cipollone fired off a letter to Nadler in which Cipollone informed Nadler that the White House had no desire to participate in this sham hearing.
“As you know, this baseless and highly partisan inquiry violates all past historical precedent, basic due process rights, and fundamental fairness,” Cipollone declared.
Cipollone went on to argue that legal scholars’ testimony offered nothing in the case since they were not a witness to any events and whom Nadler refused to identify before scheduling the hearing.
“As for the hearing scheduled for December 4, we cannot fairly be expected to participate in a hearing while the witnesses are yet to be named and while it remains unclear whether the Judiciary Committee will afford the President a fair process through additional hearings. More importantly, an invitation to an academic discussion with law professors does not begin to provide the President with any semblance of a fair process. Accordingly, under the current circumstances, we do not intend to participate in your Wednesday hearing,” Cipollone wrote.
Democrats did not react well to this news.
Chairman Nadler responded in a statement that read:
Late last night, the President and his counsel turned down our invitation to participate in Wednesday’s hearing. His response is unfortunate because allowing the President to participate has been a priority for the House from the outset. That is why the House included the opportunity to participate in H.Res 660.
The American people deserve transparency. If the President thinks the call was ‘perfect’ and there is nothing to hide then he would turn over the thousands of pages of documents by Congress, allow witnesses to testify instead of blocking testimony with baseless privilege claims, and provide and exculpatory information that refutes the overwhelming evidence of his abuse of power.
Nadler and House Speaker Pelosi knew they had to attempt to offer a fig leaf of fairness and due process to the President.
Republicans hammered Democrats on the un-American kangaroo court that Adam Schiff presided over.
But President Trump and his lawyers correctly recognized Nadler’s offer for the farce that it was.
The White House noted they were being asked to participate in an impeachment hearing just one day after Democrats on the Intelligence Committee released their report on what everyone expects to be their grounds for impeaching the President.
That was the latest unfair hurdle placed in the way of the President and his lawyers, and the White House counsel rejected the transparently ridiculous offer out of hand.
