President Trump is trailing Joe Biden in the polls and running out of time to turn his standing around.
But President Trump still has one ace in the hole.
And Donald Trump announced this 2020 change that left jaws on the ground.
The incumbent President’s last chance to frame the election for the press and the public before the fall campaign and debates start is his acceptance speech.
This election year, the President’s acceptance speech is a massive issue because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Democrat Governor of North Carolina canceled the GOP’s plans to stage an in-person nominating convention, so Republicans switched the site of the President’s speech to Jacksonville, Florida.
But that fell apart when the coronavirus outbreak began to peak in the Sunshine State.
President Trump then floated the idea of delivering his acceptance speech from the White House.
The fake news media attacked the idea and falsely claimed it would be illegal.
But President Trump left jaws on the ground when he revealed that he would give his speech either at the White House or the famed Gettysburg battlefield.
“We have narrowed the Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speech, to be delivered on the final night of the Convention (Thursday), to two locations – The Great Battlefield of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and the White House, Washington, D.C. We will announce the decision soon!” the President posted to social media.
Of course fake news CNN Democrat activist Jeremy Diamond claimed it was “controversial” for the President to speak at Gettysburg – the site of the battle that turned the tide in the Civil War – because Trump allegedly “loves” the Confederacy.
“Of course, that would be a pretty notable pick given the fact that the President, over the last couple of months, as we have seen these protests over Black Lives Matter and racism in the United States, the President has taken to defending Confederate generals, so he would, you know, be taking — giving a speech for his accepting the nomination here at a site where the Confederates, of course, lost that battle. But we are told as of now that the White House has been the kind of primary contender for this,” Diamond stated on fake news CNN.
Diamond later doubled down on his false claim that the President of the United States speaking at the battlefield that preserved the Union was “controversial.”
Diamond added, “[W]e’ve reported that President Trump is considering delivering his GOP nomination acceptance speech from the White House. But amid from criticism of that potential venue, the president is now floating another one. This time he’s talking about the hallowed Civil War battlefield in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. But that could be controversial, too, particularly because this is a president who has positioned himself as a defender of Confederate symbols and monuments to Confederate generals.”
The fake news media knows candidates get a bounce in the polls following their nominating speeches.
No matter where the President speaks from, the fake news media will criticize it.
If the President accepts the GOP nomination from the White House, it is “politicizing” the White House.
If the President travels to a location, they will accuse him of setting a bad public health example by venturing out during a pandemic.
The goal is to either force the President to cancel his speech or make his speech location a “controversy.”
