Democrats and Robert Mueller have been hunting around for the smoking gun that will bring down Donald Trump once and for all.
Now they may have stumbled upon it.
That’s because Donald Trump is about to be betrayed by the last person he ever expected.
When the FBI raided Trump lawyer Michael Cohen’s home and office in April, legal experts suggested it was done to pressure Cohen – who was the Trump organization’s “fixer” for over a decade – into spilling his guts about Trump’s deepest secrets.
Cohen’s case was referred to the Southern District of New York – who is now investigating Cohen for financial crimes unrelated to alleged Russia election meddling in 2016 – by Robert Mueller.
Critics contend Mueller laundered his case through the Southern District of New York in order to extend his investigation into Trump’s private business practices.
Trump has stated Mueller investigating his business is a red line that could cause him to step in and fire Mueller.
Now that the heat is on Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer is sending signals he is ready to deal.
Trump Attorney Rudy Giuliani made the rounds on the Sunday shows and discussed these developments.
Giuliani stated the President had no fear of Cohen cooperating because the truth would benefit Trump.
Appearing on CNN, the President’s lawyer stated, “I do not expect that Michael Cohen is going to lie.”
“I think he’s going to tell the truth, as best he can, given his recollection. And, if he does that, we’re home-free.”
These Sunday interviews apparently triggered Cohen.
A Cohen associate told CNN that Cohen was ready to spill the beans on Trump.
CNN reports:
“The sources made it clear that, in his interview with George Stephanopoulos to ABC last month, Cohen carefully chose the areas to distinguish himself from the President: First, one source said, “why did (Cohen) say I respect the FBI? … Who has said the FBI is a corrupt institution? The President.”
Next, Cohen spoke about the Trump Tower meeting, which both the President and Giuliani have claimed is a non-event, the source said. The question remains whether Cohen knows more about the meeting that could be of interest to prosecutors.
Cohen, in the interview, also specifically raised the point that he believes the intelligence communities over Trump.
“If you link them all together, you can see that Cohen is not anyone’s punching bag,” says one source. “He is exercising his discretion to send a direct message between the eyes to the President of the United States.”
While anti-Trump journalists were excited at the thought of Cohen providing the evidence that could lead to Trump’s impeachment, skeptical observers immediately saw red flags.
If Cohen truly had the goods on Trump for Russian collusion, why isn’t he dropping hints in the media instead of sitting down with prosecutors?
Is he trying to extort the President of the United States into paying his legal bills or dangling a pardon?
