The swamp has unleashed criminal investigations as their chief method of forcing Donald Trump from office.
Federal prosecutors are terrorizing Trump associates in the hopes that the threat of jail will force them to betray Trump.
And they may have struck pay-dirt as Donald Trump just got double-crossed by the last person he ever expected.
Trump lawyer Michael Cohen has been the target of prosecutors ever since the FBI raided his home and offices back in April.
Special counsel Robert Mueller tipped off federal prosecutors in New York to Cohen’s business dealings concerning a taxi medallion he co-owned, as well his payments to women who allegedly had affairs with Trump.
Mueller and other prosecutors are scheming to use Cohen to further the attempts to drive Trump from office.
And it appears Cohen may have flipped.
ABC News broke the story that sources close to Cohen believe he changed his legal team over his desire to cooperate with investigators.
But is this what really happened?
Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman claimed: “Person close to Cohen says he hasn’t flipped yet, “he’s sending up a smoke signal to Trump: I need help.”
Cohen had previously written that he would never betray President Trump:
“A person who deserves my loyalty receives it.”- Joyce Maynard I will always protect our (President)”
Conservative commentator Erick Erickson theorized that Cohen changed his legal team because his initial team of lawyers were not criminal defense attorneys.
Erickson believes Cohen did not switch his legal team in order to cooperate, but to fight.
One thing that is clear is this will have no impact on the Russia investigation.
Despite multiple fake news stories that used the Christopher Steele dossier as the basis for claiming Cohen traveled to Prague to collude with Russians, Cohen has provided evidence that he was in California visiting colleges with his son at the time.
Cohen wrote:
“Bad reporting, bad information and bad story by same reporter Peter Stone (McClatchy, DC) No matter how many times or ways they write it, I have never been to Prague. I was in LA with my son. Proven!”
Federal prosecutors first goal will be to determine if Cohen possesses any smoking gun evidence to implicate Trump in campaign finance violations for payments to Stormy Daniels and other women.
In addition, government investigators would employ Cohen as the gateway into investigating Trump’s financial empire.
Even if both of these avenues turn out to be dead ends, prosecutors will be looking to flip Cohen so he will provide a diet of embarrassing personal details about Trump that could be leaked to the press during the midterm elections.
The media could then whip these stories up in a series of “October surprises” that the Democrats would use to boost their chances to win back Congress where they can finally launch impeachment proceedings.
We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this story.
