All hell is breaking loose in the presidential election.
And it’s because Donald Trump finally took one step to put Democrats on the defensive.
That happened when Donald Trump gave Democrats this ultimatum that could change the election.
There is one issue above all others that parents across the country are talking about.
And that is will states reopen schools in the fall?
The economy cannot function if schools remain closed and kids stay home which will prevent parents from going back to work.
That will grind the economic recovery to a complete halt.
The President wanted to address this growing concern by parents that their children’s schools would not be open by hosting an event at the White House with CDC officials, governors and education administrators.
President Trump warned Democrat governors not to play political games with school openings.
“We hope that most schools are going to be open,” President Trump stated, “and we don’t want people to make political statements or do it for political reasons. They think it’s going to be good for them politically so they keep the schools closed. No way.”
President Trump explained that his administration would not allow governors to hold children hostage to try and swing the election by closing schools.
Trump revealed that “we’re very much going to put pressure on governors and everybody else to open the schools,” calling it “very important for the well-being of the students and parents.”
President Trump’s push to reopen schools is based on science.
The American Academy of Pediatrics issued guidelines based on science and data that called for schools to be open for in-person learning for America’s children.
AAP’s guidelines explained that “with the above principles in mind, the AAP strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school.”
The AAP called for students to be in classrooms this fall because of the harm done to social and learning development in children the longer they are kept out of the school setting.
“The importance of in-person learning is well-documented, and there is already evidence of the negative impacts on children because of school closures in the spring of 2020. Lengthy time away from school and associated interruption of supportive services often results in social isolation, making it difficult for schools to identify and address important learning deficits as well as child and adolescent physical or sexual abuse, substance use, depression, and suicidal ideation,” the AAP added.
Some Trump supporters fear Democrat governors in swing states will close schools in the fall with the hope that voters will blame President Trump for not controlling the coronavirus pandemic and take out their anger by voting against the President.
