The news went from bad to worse for Kamala Harris.
It all has to do with her biggest political weakness.
Donald Trump humiliated Kamala Harris with this invitation.
There is a massive crisis at the southern border.
Back in February, Joe Biden named Kamala Harris as his representative to stem the flow of illegal immigration into America.
Since Biden tapped Harris for that responsibility, the situation at the border spiraled out of control.
In the month of May, the Border Patrol intercepted 180,000 illegal aliens crossing into America.
This was the largest number of illegal aliens arrested at the border in 20 years.
Over 80 days after Biden handed Harris responsibility for the illegal immigration crisis, Harris has yet to visit the border.
That created an opening for Republicans that Donald Trump intends to fill.
Trump announced he would visit the border on June 30 as the guest of Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
“Biden and Harris have handed control of our border over to cartels, criminals, and coyotes. Drug dealers, MS-13 gang members, human smugglers, sex traffickers, and the criminal elements of the world now have free reign,” Trump announced. “What Biden and Harris have done, and are continuing to do on our border, is a grave and willful dereliction of duty.”
Abbott invited Trump to the border to showoff Abbott’s plan to finish Trump’s signature issue of a border wall.
“We will continue that process of building the border wall in addition to these other strategies that we will use to make sure that anybody coming here will understand Texas is the wrong state to come into,” Abbott told Fox News in announcing Texas would continue construction of Trump’s border wall.
But it’s not just Republicans hammering Harris over her refusal to visit the border.
Texas Democrat Henry Cuellar dispatched a letter to Harris begging her to travel to the border.
Cuellar wrote that the “rapid rise in the number of migrants arriving at our Southern Border has placed severe burdens on our communities.”
The Texas Democrat added that unless Harris took action to close the border, the situation would further deteriorate.
“The situation on the border will only worsen, as more migrants are expected to arrive.The Administration needs to take a proactive approach to create a sustainable system of humanitarian aid and relieve everyday Americans of that responsibility,” Cuellar added.
Trump visiting the border before Harris contains another layer to the story.
There is a very good chance Harris and Trump could be the Democrat and Republican nominees in 2024.
Trump could campaign against Harris’ failure at the border by pointing at the success of his administration in stopping the flood of illegal aliens from marching into America.
Polls show that the public gives Joe Biden his worst numbers on the issue of immigration and the border.
So this could be a fruitful line of attack for Trump in 2024.
