The American people elected Donald Trump to shake up business as usual.
And one country that presented America with big problems was Mexico.
But that all changed when Donald Trump issued this jaw-dropping ultimatum that had Mexico in a panic.
Mexican drug cartels pump deadly narcotics into America such as heroin and Fentanyl which kill around 100,000 Americans each year.
The threat of the cartels shot back into the American consciousness when Mexican drug gangs murdered at least nine U.S. citizens – most of whom were women and children – that were part of a Mormon offshoot living in Mexico.
Former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly recently interviewed President Trump and O’Reilly pressed the President on his response to the threat of Mexican drug cartels.
“The Mexican drug cartels kill more than 100,000 Americans every year by the importation of dangerous narcotics,” O’Reilly began his question to President Trump. “Are you going to designate those cartels in Mexico as terror groups?”
The President’s response cheered millions of Americans.
“They will be designated … I have offered him (the Mexican president) to let us go in and clean it out,” President Trump told O’Reilly. “He, so far, has rejected the offer. But at some point, something has to be done.”
“I’ve been working on that for the last 90 days,” Trump stated. “You know, designation is not that easy, you have to go through a process, and we are well into that process.”
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador previously talked tough about any threat of the U.S. designation of the drug cartels as terrorist organizations.
“We will never accept that, we are not ‘vendepatrias’ (nation sellers),” Lopez Obrador previously declared.
But after Trump confronted them with the reality that this was a new day and the U.S. government was committed to ending the scourge of drug cartels, the Mexican government backed down.
“In lieu of the good relations that exist between both countries, the Government of Mexico will seek to have a high-level meeting as soon as possible to present Mexico’s position and to learn the viewpoints of the authorities from the U.S,” a statement from the Mexican Foreign Relations Ministry read.
The Mexican government learned a lesson that many in Washington quickly picked up after Donald Trump became President.
And that was the President’s campaign promises were not empty words designed to win votes.
Donald Trump meant what he said on the stump and planned on doing everything in his power to make good on his pledges to the American people.
President Trump’s commitment to keeping his word explains why the Republican base stood by the President in the face of the impeachment witch hunt.
Grassroots Republicans saw President Trump worked on behalf of the conservative agenda he campaigned on so rank-and-file GOP voters discarded the allegations against the President as a typical Washington swamp scam.
