There is still a dedicated band of Never Trump Republicans in the GOP scheming to sabotage the President’s re-election chances.
One closed door meeting saw the launch of a new effort to take down President Trump.
But Donald Trump shut down this Never Trump traitor’s act of betrayal with one rude awakening.
Ever since Donald Trump demanded former National Security Advisor John Bolton’s resignation, everyone in Washington was waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Bolton belonged to the neocon clique of Never Trump establishment Republicans that worked in the Bush administration and detested Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” foreign policy.
Donald Trump won the election in part by rejecting the disastrous decision by Bolton and other D.C. swamp creatures to launch endless wars in the Middle East.
Bolton resigned after the President tried to make good on his campaign promise to put together a peace deal to end the 18 year-long war in Afghanistan, which stands as America’s longest military conflict.
When that happened, all of Washington knew it was just a matter of time before Bolton went on the warpath slamming President Trump and his “Make America Great Again” foreign policy.
Bolton declared he would soon have his say and that moment arrived at a closed door meeting of the Gatestone Institute – a conservative think tank that Bolton used to serve as chairman.
During his remarks, Bolton savaged the President for wanting to negotiate an end to the war in Afghanistan as well his diplomatic efforts to convince North Korea and Iran to abandon their nuclear program.
And Bolton saved his sharpest elbows for the President’s decision to buck the Washington swamp and avoid a costly and unnecessary war with Iran.
The President decided not to bomb Iran after Iran shot down an unmanned drone plane because the President promised the American people he would avoid endless wars in the Middle East.
Bolton objected to the President’s loyalty to the American people and raged that the President should have pledged his allegiance to the Washington swamp and its failed foreign policy consensus.
The President hit back at Bolton’s treacherous backstabbing when he spoke to reporters in Los Angeles where Trump appeared for a campaign fundraiser.
President Trump ripped Bolton’s support for Hillary Clinton style foreign policy.
Like Bolton, Hillary Clinton supported the wars in Iraq and Libya.
Both Clinton and Bolton also supported escalating the war in Syria whereas President Trump supported patriotic American policies of withdrawing the troops after victory.
“Well, I was critical of John Bolton for getting us involved with a lot of other people in the Middle East,” the President explained to reporters. “We’ve spent $7.5 trillion in the Middle East and you ought to ask a lot of people about that.“
“John was not able to work with anybody, and a lot of people disagreed with his ideas,” the President continued. “A lot of people were very critical that I brought him on in the first place because of the fact that he was so in favor of going into the Middle East, and he got stuck in quicksand and we became policemen for the Middle East. It’s ridiculous.“
