Sarah Palin shocked the political world by announcing her intention to run for the Congressional seat of the late Don Young.
“Today I’m announcing my candidacy for the U.S. House seat representing Alaska,” Palin stated. “Public service is a calling, and I would be honored to represent the men and women of Alaska in Congress, just as Rep. Young did for 49 years. I realize that I have very big shoes to fill, and I plan to honor Rep. Young’s legacy by offering myself up in the name of service to the state he loved and fought for, because I share that passion for Alaska and the United States of America.”
Palin announced her candidacy less than one hour before the state’s filing deadline joining a field of over 40 candidates competing in the all-party primary in June to advance to the general election in August where the top four challengers regardless of party will square off.
Donald Trump quickly endorsed Palin’s candidate declaring Sarah Palin a strong supporter of the Trump America Frist agenda.
“Sarah Palin is tough and smart and will never back down, and I am proud to give her my Complete and Total Endorsement, and encourage all Republicans to unite behind this wonderful person and her campaign to put America First,” Trump declared.
Trump noted that Palin endorsed Trump’s candidacy in 2016 and that Trump won the election.
In his endorsement statement Trump promised to help return the favor.
“Sarah shocked many when she endorsed me very early in 2016, and we won big,” President Trump’s added. “Now, it’s my turn!”
This seat will not change the balance of power in the House of Representatives.
Congressman Young represented Alaska – the state has only one House member – for over 40 years as a Republican.
But if Sarah Palin wins the election, she will serve out the final months of 2022 in what is likely Nancy Pelosi’s final year in Congress.
The last thing Nancy Pelosi wants is to have to deal with Sarah Palin – a staunch conservative that knows how to generate media attention – hounding Pelosi pointing out the absurdity of the Pelosi-run House as Pelosi’s final act in Congress.
Palin still lives in Wasilla, Alaska and enters the race with a strong chance to enter the top four general election campaign.
