Donald Trump sat down with Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats for a high stakes meeting over the crisis at the border.
Pelosi and her crew never saw what was coming for them.
That’s because Donald Trump surprised everyone with two words that left Democrats stunned into silence.
The government shutdown is in its third week.
Democrats refuse to budge on providing votes for a wall along the Southern border.
But they also won’t support any of the Trump administration’s proposed measures to ease the humanitarian crisis at the Southern border by speeding up the ability of the government to adjudicate asylum claims.
In addition to the border wall, Trump is asking for money for more immigration beds and judges to alleviate the pressure on the border patrol to house and process the nearly 2,000 illegal aliens a day that try to invade America through false asylum claims.
Instead of dealing with President Trump, Democrats are claiming they want to pass individual spending bills to open up six of the seven shut down government departments.
Pelosi and other Democrats believe this will put pressure on Trump to throw away his leverage by signing bills to end most of the shutdown.
Democrat leadership told the President they would be willing to negotiate on the border after the President agreed to reopen the government.
That turned out to be a lie.
Trump and Congressional Republicans met with Democrats’ leadership at the White House this week to try and hash out an agreement.
Republicans arrived in good faith and willing to bargain on the details but not the overall principle that America needs a secure border and that included a wall.
Pelosi- however – let it be known that this meeting was a waste of time.
Trump recounted on Twitter how he asked Pelosi about how if he reopened the government if she would be willing to support a wall.
Pelosi shot back that the answer was no.
So, Trump told her “bye bye” and ended the meeting.
“Just left a meeting with Chuck and Nancy, a total waste of time. I asked what is going to happen in 30 days if I quickly open things up, are you going to approve Border Security which includes a Wall or Steel Barrier? Nancy said, NO. I said bye-bye, nothing else works!”
All the experts agree some form of a wall is necessary.
Even Barack Obama’s Border Patrol chief backed up the President.
Former FBI agent Mike Morgan – who served the last six months of Obama’s tenure as Border Patrol Chief and was replaced by Donald Trump – insisted President Trump should “stay the course” in this fight.
“I was removed. I’m standing up and saying, ‘I should have disdain for them, but I don’t because they are right,'” Morgan told the Washington Post. “I can stand up and say they are right because it’s the right thing to do for this country. I’m begging the president to stay the course.”
Trump is not asking for a 2,000-mile-long barrier.
That is impractical because of rivers and mountainous terrain.
But the President does need 200 additional miles of barrier to help deter illegal border crossings.
