Donald Trump’s had his issues with Fox News.
Everyone thought the feud was in the past.
But Donald Trump will be seeing red when he finds out what Fox News just did.
Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz floated the idea of retiring from Congress to take a primetime hosting gig with Newsmax.
As one of the strongest Trump supporters in Congress,Gaetz has the gift of gab and the ability to create viral moments on social media which makes him attractive to cable news.
But the day after Gaetz announced he was entertaining the idea of stepping away from Congress to enter the cable news world,The New York Times published a bombshell story claiming the Department of Justice was investigating Gaetz for sex trafficking surrounding a relationship with a 17-year-old girl.
Gaetz strongly denied the accusation saying it was false, the 17-year-old girl in question doesn’t exist and that Joe Biden’s Justice Department tried to frame an innocent conservative much like how Barack Obama’s Deep State sought to frame Donald Trump for colluding with the Russians.
Congressman Gaetz also produced emails and text messages that he claimed backed up his allegation this story stemmed from an attempt to blackmail his family for 25 million dollars.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Congressman Gaetz repeated his assertion that he was considering transitioning from elected official to cable news host and claimed in addition to Newsmax, both Fox News and One America News spoke to him about a possible TV role.
“There is not a single conservative television station I haven’t had a passing conversation with about life after Congress. I have neither received nor solicited offers from any of them. But yes, I’ve talked to either executives, producers or hosts at Newsmax, OAN, Fox, Fox Business, Real America’s Voice and probably others I’m forgetting in this moment as I focus intently on refuting false accusations against me,” Gaetz told The Daily Beast.
Fox New derisively dismissed Gaetz’s accusations which many saw as Fox dumping on a Trump supporter at his lowest moment.
“No one with any level of authority has had conversations with Matt Gaetz for any of our platforms and we have no interest in hiring him,” a Fox spokesman told The Daily Beast.
One America News CEO Robert Herring told The Daily Beast that “somebody did call me and say that Congressman Gaetz might be looking for a job, possibly at Newsmax.”
“Right now, I’m not really hiring anybody for talk shows. I think he is a great congressman, and I told [that ‘somebody’] to tell him to stay there. That’s what I want Congressman Gaetz to do,” Herring added.
Many conservatives are taking a wait-and-see approach because of the nature of the allegations.
Others like Pro-Trump members Jim Jordan and Marjorie Taylor Greene defended Gaetz without question.
