Members of the January 6 committee thought they pulled off a political master stroke.
But the committee may have bit off more than it could chew.
And that’s because Donald Trump’s response to the January 6 committee will leave you speechless.
The January 6 committee rescheduled their last hearing to the day the September inflation report came out.
This was the final inflation report before the election.
Democrats on the committee wanted to deflect the media attention away from the fact that the report showed Joe Biden’s socialist spending led to inflation spiking to 8.2 percent year-over-year, the highest level in 40 years.
And the committee achieved that goal by issuing a subpoena to Donald Trump.
Everyone assumed Trump would ignore the subpoena as there was no chance the committee could settle any legal issues about forcing a former president to testify before Congress likely changes hands to GOP control in early January.
But that thinking did not take into account Trump’s penchant for showmanship.
A Trumpworld source told Fox News Trump was considering testifying so he could “talk about how corrupt the election was, how corrupt the committee was, and how Nancy Pelosi did not call up the National Guard that Trump strongly recommended for her to do three days earlier on January 3, 2021.”
The source also told Fox that Trump “loves the idea.”
Trump blasted the committee as another in a long line of partisan witch hunts Nancy Pelosi generated in order to destroy Trump’s political career.
“The committee is a hoax, a sham, a partisan witch hunt which is a continuation of the witch hunt that has gone on since the great day for our country that I came down the golden escalator with our future first lady,” Trump declared. “They have no case, they have no ratings, so they have to try to do this to get publicity.”
Trump singled out the two RINOS on the committee – Adam Kinzinger and Liz Cheney – as evidence the committee was “a partisan witch hunt, together with two Republicans that have been thrown out of the party — one not wanting to run because he couldn’t win; and another losing by a record number of more than 40 points.”
Trump added that the committee refused to investigate why Pelosi did not agree to deploy the National Guard to the Capitol after Trump authorized their deployment.
“They didn’t do their job. I believed the crowd was going to be bigger — just my instinct — and they had the chance to call up the National Guard three days before Jan. 6, and if they did, Jan. 6 would have been a very different day,” Trump added. “But they didn’t do it.”
“They were derelict in their duty. I gave them the authorization and the recommendation to call up the National Guard,” Trump declared.
To be sure, it would be a surprise if Trump testified.
The committee knows this was a political stunt designed to benefit Democrats in the midterm election.
But if Trump did testify it would give him a chance to square off against his chief tormentors in the most-watched congressional hearing ever.
