The feud between Donald Trump and Fox News appears to be over.
It ended in a surprising agreement.
Fox News announced a major change that left Trump grinning from ear to ear.
“I’m so excited, first of all, to be joining the Fox family,” Trump stated. “I sort of feel like I’ve been an unofficial member of the team for so long. You guys know, it was kind of a joke over the past five years, I would come there so often that the security guards were like maybe we should just give you a key.”
The big question for Lara Trump was how signing with Fox affected her potential Senate candidacy in her home state of North Carolina.
Trump’s said in the past that she is seriously considering running, and that Fox was willing to work with her while she made up her mind.
“Fox has been very generous with me. They have said, look, if that’s something that you ultimately decide to do, they’re going to work with me on that front and make sure that everything all the rules are followed and we do everything properly. So thank you to the Fox team for allowing me to have the possibility that that’s in the future,” Trump stated.
To run for Senate in North Carolina, Lara Trump would have to establish residency in her birth state.
That has not yet happened.
But appearing regularly on Fox allows Lara Trump to regularly comment on the day’s events and can keep her name front and center in Republican Party politics.
Fox hiring Lara Trump has one other big effect on Fox News.
For a brief period of time after the election, Fox appeared to be considering breaking with Donald Trump.
Fox hiring Lara Trump should put that to rest.
After the election when Fox looked like it was flirting with Never Trump, Fox lost 40 percent of its audience.
Fox appears to have arrested that slide by making moves like giving Greg Gutfeld a nightly 11p.m. show and creating a 7p.m. opinion hour program.
Bringing on Lara Trump as a contributor is another offering Fox can make to Trump supporters to send a message that Fox will not turn into another CNN.
The moves appear to be working.
In January, Fox News ended an 18-year run as the top-rated cable news network by finishing in last place behind MSNBC and CNN.
But after Trump left office, CNN and MSNBC lost large chunks of their audience and some Trump supporters came back to Fox after they saw the network was not lurching to the left.
