Fox News has come under scrutiny for its conduct on election night.
The Trump campaign argued Fox helped swing the election to Biden with its Decision Desk announcing Biden won certain states while refusing to declare Trump the winner in others.
And now Fox News called one race on election night they later admitted was a mistake.
President Trump’s campaign argued that Fox News prematurely called Arizona with just 73 percent of the vote counted and hundreds of thousands of ballots yet to be counted.
But that wasn’t even the worst mistake Fox News made on election night.
Early on, Fox News called the Democrats keeping their majority in the House of Representatives and picking up five seats.
That call wasn’t initially surprising.
Polls initially projected Democrats beating Republicans by seven to ten points in a generic ballot test against Republicans and on pace to grow their majority by 15 to 20 seats.
But that call was wrong.
Democrats ended up getting two percent more of the vote for House races than Republicans and Republicans may gain up to 13 seats in the House, leaving the Democrats with a slim 220 to 215 seat majority.
Federalist co-founder Sean Davis mocked Fox News for their vaunted Decision Desk blowing the projection in the House of Representatives.
“Democrats, did not, in fact, ‘expand their majority’ in the House. The GOP will net up to 12 new seats. From election night: ‘The Fox News Decision Desk can project Democrats will retain control of the House of Representatives and expand their majority by at least five seats,’” Davis wrote.
It took more than a week for Fox News to quietly retract this decision.
Star anchor Bret Baier deleted his tweets that featured announcements about control of the House of Representatives.
And still Fox News never officially retracted their projection of the Democrats gaining seats in the House of Representatives.
Instead they just hoped everyone would forget.
The Fox News Decision Desk blowing the call of Democrats gaining five seats in the House of Representatives led to many Americans wondering about the accuracy and legitimacy of the network’s call of Arizona for Joe Biden.
Fox News missed the result in the House of Representatives by about 20 seats.
That is a major mistake.
When the Trump campaign questioned the accuracy of the call in Arizona, Fox News defended the call claiming that the Decision Desk ran the numbers and felt confident in the algorithms and formulas they use to call races.
These same mathematical formulas and calculations that led to Fox News calling Arizona for Joe Biden also led the Fox News Decision Desk to incorrectly call the House of Representatives for Democrats.
This episode was another example of the creeping liberal bias on the news side of Fox News.
