Fox News Channel left their viewers stunned into silence.
The network’s lost 40 percent of its audience since the election and they are scrambling to win back Trump supporters.
And then Fox News made this surprising on-air announcement about Kayleigh McEnany.
Fox News host Harris Faulkner made a surprising announcement during her 11 a.m. newscast when Faulkner informed the audience that Fox News officially hired former Trump administration press secretary Kayleigh McEnany as an on-air contributor.
“It is my distinct pleasure today to welcome Kayleigh McEnany to the Fox family. We’ll be seeing much more of her in the future,” Faulkner announced.
During the election and the immediate aftermath, Fox News appeared to be moving left and renouncing Donald Trump.
Chris Wallace drew universal scorn for his performance as moderator of the first presidential debate.
And while on election night most of the outrage focused on Fox’s early call of Arizona for Joe Biden, Fox’s absurdly wrong call of the Democrats winning between 5 and 15 seats in the House of Representatives may have depressed Republican turnout in western states costing the GOP seats.
Fox News executives quickly realized they had a problem on their hands and raced to correct course.
The network moved Martha MacCallum to the daytime and created a new opinion program to take the place of her 7 p.m. newscast.
Fox also gave popular pro-Trump host Greg Gutfeld a daily 11 p.m. show and bumped Shannon Bream’s 11 p.m. news broadcast to midnight.
Former Fox News host Eric Bolling told Mediaite in an interview that Fox was loading up on opinion programming to win back their audience.
“Fox’s strategy to win back Trump viewers appears to be to go all-in on opinion programming from 7p through midnight,” Bolling told Mediaite. “Question remains: what will OANN and Newsmax do to counter Fox in an attempt to hold onto their share of the audience they’ve earned?”
Fox began losing viewers to conservative competitors Newsmax and One America News Network.
Bringing on Kayleigh McEnany—who was one of the most popular administration officials on the right—is another move by Fox to appeal to conservatives.
It’s no surprise that all of the names Fox News is moving into primetime or being given larger on-air roles are all identified as strong Trump supporters.
In January 2021 Fox finished in last place behind MSNBC and CNN.
This was the first time in nearly 20 years that Fox News Channel was not the highest-rated cable news network.
All cable news networks expected a ratings drop once Donald Trump left the White House.
But at Fox News, a ratings drop is treated as a crisis.
And that’s why Fox News just hired Kayleigh McEnany.
