Vice President Mike Pence’s relationship with Donald Trump has been the subject of much speculation.
The reality of the situation took many Trump supporters by surprise.
And Fox News reported a surprising truth about what Mike Pence thinks about Donald Trump.
On January 6, Mike Pence oversaw the certification of the Electoral College results from the 2020 election.
Donald Trump argued Vice President Pence had the authority to reject states’ results.
But Pence responded that the Constitution merely granted him a ceremonial role and his only responsibility was to count the votes and announce the winner.
After Pence performed his constitutional duties, President Trump blasted Pence.
This episode became fodder for the Democrats’ sham impeachment as House managers made the baseless argument that Donald Trump incited an insurrection where rioters threatened violence against Pence.
“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace revealed that Pence’s team complained to Fox News about Pence’s treatment from President Trump.
Wallace conveyed the exact message that Pence’s team hopes breaks through in the 2024 presidential primary that Pence resented Donald Trump’s conduct but played the part of the loyal soldier so to not alienate Trump supporters.
“Quite frankly, Mike Pence had to eat a lot… One time when he was about to do our show and Donald Trump was speaking from the White House the day that they brought down Baghdadi. And you could see there were things in the way the president conducted himself that clearly was not Mike Pence’s style. But he would swallow it and be the loyal soldier,” Wallace began.
But Wallace revealed that Pence’s team ripped Trump behind his back for being irresponsible and leaving Pence to the wolves during the riot.
“That weekend, some members of the Pence team and called us up — and I know they called other people up around town… to make it clear, and this is how angry the Pence team was, that Donald Trump never called Mike Pence when he was in the bunker inside the Capitol to ask him if he was safe, to inquire about his safety, nor did he ever urge the people who were storming the Capitol to stand down and not to go after Mike Pence,” Wallace added.
Wallace reported Pence’s team claimed it was the “ultimate betrayal.”
Pence’s team made it known to Wallace and other Fox reporters that they resented Donald Trump’s conduct and wanted miles worth of distance between Pence and Trump.
“We did everything we could for four years to serve you, to stand by you. You asked us to do something that was a constitutional impossibility. And then you didn’t protect us when the mob came to literally try to find him and to, in the minds of some of them, to execute him,” Wallace added.
Mike Pence wants to run for President in 2024.
Pence knows he will never be the favorite of the “MAGA” base.
But Pence believes he will have enough appeal due to his loyal service to President Trump.
That’s why, in the final days of the Trump administration, Pence performed some of the rituals of an outgoing administration that would make his candidacy a safe landing spot for establishment Republicans.
Pence called Kamala Harris to congratulate her and then attended Joe Biden’s swearing-in.
And Pence’s people would not have leaked to Chris Wallace without Pence’s blessing in order to get the message out that even though Pence was a member of the Trump administration, Pence has establishment temperament and sensibilities that won’t lead him to question the system.
