George Soros is well known for using his billions of dollars to support political causes.
Through his “Open Society Foundation” he has flooded boatloads of money into political causes.
But one thing he just caught doing with his group is extremely illegal.
Ireland is well known for their pro-life position.
The Eighth Amendment of their constitution specifically protects the right to life of the unborn.
And George Soros and tons of other know-it-alls who don’t even live in Ireland have a huge issue with that.
George Soros, through his Open Society Foundation, donated more than $162,000 to Amnesty International, a group that is leading a campaign to repeal Ireland’s pro-life Eighth Amendment.
But as it turns out, that donation may not be following the law.
Ireland’s Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO), just ordered Amnesty International to return the donation to Soros’ Open Society Foundation.
The reason they are forcing them to return the donation is because of Ireland’s 1997 Electoral Act, which bars foreign organizations from giving donations of more than $100 for “political purposes.”
As reported by The Daily Caller:
“Left-wing billionaire donor George Soros is illegally bankrolling a campaign to repeal the Eighth Amendment of Ireland’s constitution, which protects “the right to life of the unborn,” according to an independent government watchdog.
Ireland’s Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO), has ordered left-wing organization Amnesty International to return a donation of more than $162,000 from Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF). The donation is in violation of the 1997 Electoral Act, which bars foreign organizations from giving donations of more than $100 for “political purposes,” according to SIPO.
Amnesty has refused to return the donation, a defiant decision that OSF is supporting, British newspaper The Times reported on Wednesday. Amnesty has claimed that the law is unfair.
An OSF spokesman told The Times the group is “proud to be one of the sources of support for local advocacy efforts to bring Ireland’s abortion law in line with its commitments under international human rights law.”
Irish pro-life groups have decried Soros’ interference into their politics.
“It is important to recall that the Open Society Foundation stated when giving the money to Amnesty that it was to assist the coordination of groups in Ireland with a view to repealing the 8th Amendment and taking away legal protection for the baby in the womb,” Cora Sherlock, a spokeswoman for the Irish Pro Life Campaign, told the Catholic Herald.
“The involvement of this US based organization in the Irish abortion debate represents a gross interference in our democracy and in safeguarding the right to life. Amnesty should immediately return the money and stop trying to portray itself as a victim in all of this,” Sherlock said.”
This isn’t the first time George Soros has funded controversial groups.
Just in the past few months, Soros has given money to support a group registering felons to vote in Alabama ahead of their Senate election, where Roy Moore historically lost.
He is also bankrolling major anti-Trump “resistance groups” that have been known for violent protests.
So Soros being involved in shady activities is nothing new.
But in this specific case, he clearly has broken the law.
