Republicans thought the 2022 midterm elections were a low point.
They were wrong.
And now this GOP senator’s stunning funeral announcement had all hell breaking loose.
Establishment RINOs like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell want to blame conservatives for nominating poor candidates for why the GOP failed to retake the Senate and came up short of the projected gains in the House of Representatives.
McConnell and other establishment figures are secretly happy Trump-endorsed candidates lost because McConnell would rather serve in a minority than share a majority with senators he cannot control.
But Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley disagreed.
In the aftermath of the election Senator Hawley called the results “the funeral” for the Mitch McConnell/Mitt Romney/Liz Cheney version of the Republican Party.
Hawley even led a rebellion to try and dislodge McConnell from his post as Republican leader in the Senate.
Following the vote Hawley expanded upon his opposition to Mitch McConnell-style squish Republicanism because caving to the left on every issue failed to inspire conservatives to turn out.
“They don’t like what’s going on in the country. They looked at Republicans, and Trump wasn’t on their ballot, but looked at the Republicans who were. As a group they were like, ‘We just don’t think you guys do anything for us.’ I think that’s a huge problem,” Hawley told reporters.
In a Washington Post op-ed detailing his vision for a GOP renewal Senator Hawley slammed McConnell for orchestrating deals with Joe Biden that allowed Biden to ban and confiscate firearms from Americans and for helping Biden to impose the Communist Green New Deal.
“The problem isn’t principally the tactics; the problem is the substance. For the past two years, the Republican establishment in Washington has capitulated on issue after issue, caving to Democrats on the Second Amendment and on the left’s radical climate agenda (‘infrastructure’). These Republican politicians sided with Big Pharma on insulin and advocated lowering tariffs on our competitors overseas,” Hawley wrote.
Hawley also blasted pro-amnesty and pro-open borders RINOs like McConnell and anti-gun Texas Senator John Cornyn for being quick to try and sneak an amnesty deal for millions of illegal aliens through the Congress.
“Republican politicians have frequently advocated higher immigration levels and four years ago went all in for soft-on-crime ‘sentencing reform.’ They have done nothing on Big Tech. This record doesn’t appeal to working people. Just the opposite: It repels them. If Republicans want to be a majority party, now is the time to change course,” Hawley added.
Hawley wrote that if Republicans wanted to build a true governing coalition it needed to reject RINOs like McConnell and pursue a conservative agenda based on confronting Communist China, restoring President Trump’s America First energy policy, putting 100,000 new cops on the street to combat crime, and securing the border and ending the scourge of illegal immigration.
