Many Democrats wished Hillary Clinton went away following her defeat in the 2016 election.
Clinton’s spent the last several years lurking in the shadows of party politics waiting for the right moment to re-emerge.
Hillary Clinton left Democrats fuming with this massive unforced error.
Democrats lurched into another culture war battle when Hillary Clinton praised Lake Highlands High School Valedictorian Paxton Smith after Smith fooled school officials and delivered a commencement speech attacking Texas’ new fetal heartbeat bill that bans abortions after six weeks.
Smith submitted one speech for approval, but at the ceremony launched into an attack on Texas’ new heartbeat bill legislation.
Hillary Clinton tweeted approvingly at the move and told Smith that what she did “took guts.”
“This took guts,” Clinton tweeted. “Thank you for not staying silent, Paxton.”
In her speech, Smith attacked the legislation for banning virtually all abortions in Texas.
“Most women don’t even realize they’re pregnant by six weeks,” Smith stated. “And so, before they have a chance to decide if they are emotionally, physically, and financially stable enough to carry out a full-term pregnancy, before they have the chance to decide if they can take on the responsibility of bringing another human being into the world, that decision has been made for them by a stranger. A decision that will affect the rest of their lives.”
Smith continued on claiming that a law protecting the right of the unborn inhibited her dreams.
“I have dreams, hopes, and ambitions,” Smith added. “Every girl graduating today does. We have spent our entire lives working towards our future, and without our input, and without our consent, our control over that future has been stripped away from us.”
Critics contend that Smith ignored the fact that the unborn baby will also have hopes and dreams one day and those are ended in abortion clinics.
Smith added that she feared being raped and forced to carry to term.
“I am terrified that if my contraceptives fail, that if I’m raped, then my hopes and aspirations and efforts and dreams for my future will no longer matter,” Smith stated. “I hope you can feel how gut-wrenching that is, I hope you can feel how dehumanizing it is to have the autonomy over your own body taken from you.”
But pro-life advocates reject this argument.
In that situation, the guilty party is the criminal and the baby is an innocent party.
Smith ignored these realities.
“We cannot stay silent,” Smith concluded.
Democrats hoped to make the economy the focus of their messaging over the next several years.
Hillary Clinton is distracting from that strategy by waging a culture war that has hurt Democrats in the past.
Donald Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election in large part because voters that put the Supreme Court as their number one issue broke decisively for Trump.
That happened in large part because Donald Trump highlighted Clinton’s support for abortion on demand up until the moment of birth.
