Ilhan Omar is the most radical member of the new Congress.
Her extreme rhetoric is tearing the Democratic Party to shreds.
And now she was just betrayed in a way she never thought possible.
Freshman Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is a political lightning rod, unlike anything Washington has seen in years.
As a member of the Democratic Caucus led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Omar has emerged as perhaps the most radical member of her party to hold office, a distinction she earned in less than four months.
Omar isn’t alone though.
She’s joined by fellow Democrat Freshmen Rashida Tlaib and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the most divisive and outrageous members of the new Congress.
But in Omar’s case, she isn’t famous for being an avowed socialist like Ocasio-Cortez, or for cussing out the President of the United States like Tlaib.
Instead, she’s known for her infamous and racist remarks directed at the Trump administration, as well as anyone else who stands in her way.
Omar has attacked Jewish Americans for holding a “dual loyalty” and for not being true Americans.
She’s also declared that Israel has “hypnotized the world.”
Even more, she’s sworn to support the BDS movement, which seeks to destroy Israel through economic sanctions and boycotts.
And her rhetoric is finally catching up to her and the rest of the Democratic Party are beginning to desert her left and right.
When condemnation of Omar’s attacks on Jews and Israel finally reached a breaking point, a resolution to condemn her remarks was drafted in Congress, only to be torn up at the 11th hour by Pelosi, who was too cowardly to stand up to her most radical members in her own party.
And now, Omar’s words are scaring away other Democrats who are seeking to run for office.
The Washington Free Beacon reports, “Dan McCready (D., N.C.), the sole remaining Democratic candidate from the 2018 midterm cycle, has returned a $2,000 campaign donation from Rep. Ilhan Omar (D., Minn.), the controversial congresswoman whose anti-Semitic remarks have elicited condemnation from both sides of the aisle.”
McCready is running for Congress in a set in North Carolina that remains open after allegations of voter fraud triggered a new election for the district after the November elections.
It’s a seat that is considered a toss-up, and the winning party of the district could have momentum on their side heading into the crucial 2020 elections.
“Democrats continue to view the 9th District, which Donald Trump won by 12 points in 2016, as a pickup opportunity, thanks in part to McCready’s strong support in the Charlotte suburbs, where roughly half of the district’s voters live. The party’s strong showing among these moderate suburban voters contributed significantly to its successful campaign to retake the House majority in November,” adds the Free Beacon.
There’s just one problem of course.
Omar.
Her rhetoric and penchant for getting into deep trouble on social media and in the press has led to many Democrats backing away from her, with McCready even going so far as to return a campaign check she gave him because it would look bad for him to keep her money.
And this is an opportunity that Republicans are poised to take full advantage of.
“The Democrats have very much proven to be anti-Israel, there’s no question about that, and it’s a disgrace,” Trump said when asked about Omar’s record. “I don’t know what’s happened to them but they are totally anti-Israel, frankly I think they’re anti-Jewish,”
It’s clear that alienating Jewish Americans at the expense of pandering to Omar’s radical left-wing base isn’t a winning strategy for Democrats, and McCready gets it.
Worse yet, it isn’t just Jewish Americans who are turning away from Omar’s comments.
It’s millions of Americans across the country who find her words unacceptable.
And that’s why McCready is trying to thread a needle in his swing district.
But for Omar, the news comes as a betrayal.
She had hoped to build a left-wing Congress with herself or one of her allies as the leader.
But now it seems clear that Democrats are abandoning her. And it makes sense too.
After all, it’s difficult to argue that Trump is the bigot when former KKK leaders like David Duke are backing Ilhan Omar in the debate over Israel’s relationship with the United States.
