Ilhan Omar just can’t get away from controversy.
And the radical Democrat may have gone too far this time.
She just sparked a backlash that could be the end of her career.
Ilhan Omar has emerged as perhaps the most vocal anti-Semite in Congress after just over a month on the job.
The newly elected Democrat from Minnesota has repeatedly come under fire for her vicious attacks on the state of Israel as well as Jewish people.
Omar doesn’t seem to know when to stop.
And now it seems that her rhetoric is about to catch up with her.
Politico reports:
“Speaker Nancy Pelosi and top Democrats will take floor action Wednesday in response to controversial remarks by Rep. Ilhan Omar about Israel, the second such rebuke of the freshman Democrat from party leaders in recent weeks.”
The fact that Democrats are having to take action on the floor of the House of Representatives in order to address Omar’s increasingly disturbing comments is stunning.
Things are getting so bad that Pelosi has to take action.
The Democrats can’t allow themselves to be painted as the anti-Semitic party, especially when one of their few attacks on President Trump heading into the 2020 elections is that Trump is a racist bigot.
Their false narrative about Trump could completely fall apart if one of their own emerges as an actual bigot towards Jewish people both in America and in Israel.
Which explains why Pelosi is having to take such drastic action.
“Pelosi and other senior Democrats have drafted a resolution to address the controversy, which ballooned over the weekend following a public clash between Omar and senior Jewish lawmakers,” adds Politico.
“If the House moves ahead with the vote on Wednesday as planned, it would be an unprecedented public rebuke of Omar, who was sworn into office just over 60 days ago. Omar’s office declined to comment about the Democratic resolution on Monday.”
However, Republicans see an opening in Pelosi’s attempts to cover up her own party’s actions.
House Republicans are now demanding that a censure motion against Omar be taken up.
Republicans are also demanding that Omar be removed from her position on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which is something that Pelosi and the rest of the Democratic leadership in the House has been hesitant to do.
Meanwhile, Democrats remain divided over whether or not to name Omar explicitly in their resolution.
The party is divided on the issue, with some Democrats wishing to keep the resolution vague without mentioning her by name, while others demand more swift and decisive action.
Among those are key members of the Democratic Party leadership in the House of Representatives, including Foreign Affairs Chairman Eliot Engel and House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey, who have both condemned her comments and are demanding an apology from the freshman.
As a whole, the left seems divided on the issue between older Democrats who are more supportive of Israel, and younger Democrats who seem to be increasingly hostile to America’s friendly relationship with the Jewish state.
Do you think Nancy Pelosi should strip Omar of her position on the Foreign Affairs committee?
