Ilhan Omar remains a lightning rod in Washington.
The Freshman Democrat has built an image of being one of the most vocal anti-Semites in Congress.
And now, she instantly regretted this damaging interview that sped up the end of her career.
Ilhan Omar just keeps digging.
The Freshman Congresswoman from Minnesota has emerged in recent months as one of the most left-wing radicals in Washington D.C.
But to add fuel to the fire, she has also come out as one of the most vocal anti-Semites in Congress, with her attacks on Jewish Americans and the State of Israel making national headlines for weeks on end.
Things got so bad that several prominent members of the Democratic Caucus have called her out for her rhetoric, and a resolution was even drafted condemning her actions before being watered down by Nancy Pelosi at the 11th hour.
And yet, the controversy surrounding Omar won’t dissipate.
Enter, Rashida Tlaib, the Democratic Congresswoman from Michigan who has emerged as one of Omar’s closest allies.
Tlaib, who herself became infamous for referring to President Trump as a “mother******” on the night of her swearing-in party, has also come out as a prominent anti-Semite in Congress alongside Omar.
Tlaib thus tried to come to Omar’s defense this weekend in what quickly became a disastrous interview with CNN.
“Democratic Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib said that people find it easier to attack fellow Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar due to her status as a black female Muslim in a Sunday interview on CNN’s ‘State of the Union,’” reports the Daily Caller.
Omar is going to end up regretting her ally’s comments. They seem likely to only make the problem worse.
“I think she becomes an easier target, is what I’m trying to say,” Tlaib stated when asked why there were strong reactions to Omar’s statements about Israel.
That much is obvious, though Tlaib somehow manages to completely miss the point.
Omar is becoming an easy target because she so brazenly attacks Jewish Americans as having “dual loyalties”.
She’s an easy target because she makes it so painfully clear how much she despises the State of Israel and its people.
But Tlaib thinks there’s another reason for the criticism directed at Omar.
“And that’s what worries me is that I don’t understand why others can say something probably is worse and probably stemmed on white supremacy can get away with it but then Ilhan, who is really coming from a place of disagreeing with the policies of the country of Israel,” Tlaib said.
“That if she speaks up, that it’s seen and because she’s Muslim and because she’s black, she’s an easier target for them to attack and target,” she concluded.
According to Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar can attack the State of Israel for “hypnotizing the world”, and somehow, she’s the victim here.
Either Tlaib just doesn’t get it, or she doesn’t care.
It could honestly be both.
Tlaib is trying to gaslight the American people into thinking that the sitting Congresswoman who accused Jewish Americans of being disloyal to the United States is somehow the real victim in all of this.
And she’s the best spokesperson that Omar can count on.
Do you think Tlaib should apologize?
