Ilhan Omar waited for this moment ever since she got to Congress.
What just happened is bad news for the United States.
That’s because Ilhan Omar won a victory that should keep every American up at night.
Leftists launched a coordinated attack on American cities, unleashing thugs and rioters to burn streets, loot businesses and attack law enforcement.
The goal was to sow chaos to create the political environment to remove Donald Trump from office and impose their anti-American agenda.
Ilhan Omar – who represents Minneapolis, which became Ground Zero for this leftist insurgency after police officers murdered George Floyd – laid out the first step in this plan of attack.
And it involved dissolving the police force.
“The Minneapolis Police Department has proven themselves beyond reform,” Omar wrote on social media. “It’s time to disband them and reimagine public safety in Minneapolis.”
Democrat office holders in Minneapolis were thrilled to take up this cause.
Councilman Jeremiah Ellison – who is the son of Attorney General Keith Ellison and who also pledged his allegiance to Antifa – boasted that the Minneapolis City Council would follow through on Omar’s wish and disband the police force.
“We are going to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department,” Ellison posted to social media. “And when we’re done, we’re not simply gonna glue it back together. We are going to dramatically rethink how we approach public safety and emergency response. It’s really past due.”
Ellison’s fellow council member Steve Fletcher wrote an op-ed for Time calling for an unarmed alternative to police that would supposedly maintain order through “de-escalation.”
“We had already pushed for pilot programs to dispatch county mental health professionals to mental health calls, and fire department EMTs to opioid overdose calls, without police officers. We have similarly experimented with unarmed, community-oriented street teams on weekend nights downtown to focus on de-escalation. We could similarly turn traffic enforcement over to cameras and, potentially, our parking enforcement staff, rather than our police department,” Fletcher wrote.
Minneapolis got a taste of how police retreating to “de-escalation” worked out during the riots.
Police officers abandoned the third precinct after so-called “protestors” gathered outside.
The rioters then stormed the building and burned it down in an image of retreat and surrender that sickened Americans and emboldened the mob to riot for two more nights.
The call to “defund the police” accelerated from the fringe into mainstream Democrat Party thought with alarming speed.
Even so-called “establishment” Democrats like former Hillary Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon tweeted his support for defunding the police.
Ideas that once seemed outlandish in the Democrat Party such as homosexual marriage or so-called “transgender” rights became nationwide policy in short order.
Many Americans are worried that the calls to defund the police – which would leave gangs as the enforcers of order on the streets – will quickly become the terrifying on-the-ground reality in every major American city.
