Donald Trump ordered 5,000 troops to the Southern border to stop the migrant caravan invasion.
Democrats and fake news reporters mocked the move as a stunt.
But Secretary of Defense James Mattis just dropped a bombshell about the military stopping the caravan.
Pentagon Gives Update On Troop Deployment
The Pentagon announced the troops will end their deployment before Christmas.
Troops were sent to the border to provide logistical support and help Border Patrol by providing reinforcement.
Army Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Buchanan – who is the officer in charge of the mission – announced that the troops will be home by December 15th.
He explained that troops were tasked with building base camps to house the migrants and fortifying the ports of entry where migrants will try to request asylum.
Buchanan stated that since those tasks either have been – or will be – completed, the Pentagon can execute a troop drawdown.
“Our end date right now is 15 December, and I’ve got no indications from anybody that we’ll go beyond that,” Buchanan declared.
Previously, Secretary of Defense Mattis defended the mission.
Fake news reporters belittled the deployment as a stunt.
They claimed Trump only ordered troops to the border to gin up votes before the midterm election.
But Mattis shut down that talk.
He silenced the fake news critics by declaring, “We don’t do stunts.”
Why The Deployment Was Necessary
Trump deploying troops to the border in a support role was a necessary move.
The migrant caravan reached the border faster than expected and in greater numbers.
Government officials reported up to 3,000 migrants had stormed into Tijuana to cross the U.S. border and claim asylum.
They also estimate as many as 10,000 migrants are following them.
Border Patrol needed to expand the base camps housing the migrant invaders.
Trump tweeted that the government would end catch-and-release – the policy where migrants are released into America after receiving their court date for a deportation hearing – and replace it with “catch and detain.”
Trump wrote:
Catch and Release is an obsolete term. It is now Catch and Detain. Illegal Immigrants trying to come into the U.S.A., often proudly flying the flag of their nation as they ask for U.S. Asylum, will be detained or turned away. Dems must approve Border Security & Wall NOW!
Fake news reporters claim catch-and-release is a viable policy.
They cite studies showing 75 percent of illegal aliens show up for their deportation hearings.
But when Border Patrol is arresting hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens each year, 25 percent of them escaping into America becomes a national crisis.
That’s why Border Patrol needed all the resources necessary to build base camps and other fortifications to house the migrants while their asylum claims are processed.
And with the Pentagon announcing that troops will be home by December 15th, it means this important mission has been a success.
