Attorney General Jeff Sessions has a big problem on his hands.
A key Deep State leaker was just indicted for lying about his scheme to end President Trump.
Now everyone is asking one big question about Sessions and the answer could have his career on the ropes.
Senate Intelligence Committee Director of Security James Wolf was indicted for lying to FBI agents about his contacts with reporters after he leaked classified information about former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
Wolf was engaged in a romantic relationship with then Buzzfeed and current New York Times reporter Ali Watkins, and was allegedly leaking information to her about Page.
These stories fed the false narrative that Page – and the Trump campaign – colluded with the Russians.
While Trump supporters cheered the indictment of Wolf as a blow to the Deep State, it raised big questions about Sessions conduct.
Sessions has so far sat on criminal referrals against two other key Deep State players.
In January, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and Senator Lindsey Graham dispatched a memorandum to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and FBI Director Christopher Wray for a criminal referral for Christopher Steele, the ex-British intelligence agent who was paid by the Democrats to put together the now controversial Russia dossier.
Grassley and Graham alleged that Steele lied to investigators, stating:
“But there is substantial evidence suggesting that Mr. Steele materially misled the FBI about a key aspect of his dossier efforts, one which bears on his credibility.”
While much of the letter is blacked out, the unclassified portions of the referral memorandum indicate Steele was not truthful with investigators about his contacts with reporters.
This memo was sent months ago and Trump supporters are wondering why no action was taken.
They are also questioning why no charges have been filed against former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe after the Department of Justice Inspector General found he misled investigators on multiple occasions during the probe of the FBI’s conduct in the Hillary Clinton email investigation.
McCabe allegedly lied about a series of press leaks he engineered during the investigation.
So far, the Department of Justice has not yet acted on this referral either.
Trump supporters are wondering why these high-profile Deep State operatives have not been charged.
Is Sessions dropping the ball?
Or are there other factors at work?
President Trump – and millions of his supporters – have long questioned Sessions’ decision making.
FBI officials and Democrats have been given a free pass to lie and leak.
Trump has repeatedly tweeted that the Justice Department is allowing his opponents to break the law while ruining the lives of his allies through legal fees and charges brought about by the Mueller witch hunt.
Critics argue there cannot be two standards of justice in America – one for President Trump and his allies – and one for the Deep State and the “resistance.”
