Jeff Sessions is back on the hot seat.
The Attorney General has drawn the wrath of Donald Trump and some the President’s supporters over his conduct in the Russia investigation.
Now a bombshell Congressional testimony exposed this big lie.
Embattled anti-Trump FBI agent Peter Strzok testified for 11 hours before a joint House Judiciary and Oversight Committee.
Strzok was grilled about everything from his anti-Trump text messages, which critics believe proved he and other FBI agents tried to rig the Russia investigation against a then-candidate Trump, to how the FBI came into possession of the controversial Christopher Steele Russia dossier.
At one point, Strzok was questioned by Pennsylvania Republican Congressman Tom Marino.
Marino grilled Strzok about whether he still had a security clearance, to which Strzok responded, “Today I do. Yes.”
The Pennsylvania Republican then pressed the point further, “You’ve had one for quite a while, other than the circumstances.”
Strzok matter-of-factly responded, “Yes.”
But the disgraced FBI agent’s testimony was in direct conflict with a June 21st interview given by Attorney General Jeff Sessions on the Howie Carr Show.
During that interview, the Attorney General stated Strzok had been relieved of his security clearance.
Sessions stated, “Mr. Strzok, as I understand, has lost his security clearance.”
“That’s a matter decided by the FBI.”
Even this decision drew the ire of some Trump supporters.
They questioned why Strzok received the slap on the wrist of losing his security clearance when Trump supporters believed his anti-Trump bias was a fireable offense.
Sessions explained that Strzok was still employed by the FBI stating, “Some personnel who are subject to discipline have certain rights. That’s my understanding.”
That did not sit well with some Trump supporters back in June.
So when Strzok testified that he still had a security clearance, they wondered whether Sessions was not telling the truth or was misinformed.
The latter would mean that he was not in control of his Department and that his underlings had been able to feed him bad information without Sessions realizing he was being misled.
Conservative Review national security reporter Jordan Schachtel tweeted:
Attorney General Jeff Sessions, call your office!
In June, the AG said that Peter Strzok’s clearance had been revoked. Yet Strzok just testified that he still has his security clearance.
What is going on here?
As this story rockets around social media, expect even more Trump supporters to begin questioning Sessions conduct in running the Justice Department.
What started as murmurs when Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation will erupt into full-on howls if it comes out that Strzok still has his security clearance and Sessions was either misinformed or misleading in his interview with Howie Carr.
Hours after the hearing, the Department of Justice raced to clarify the situation and announced that Strzok had been given a temporary clearance to review documents in advance of the hearing.
