Democrats keep making the mistake of picking fights with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
These confrontations never end well for the left.
And Democrats learned that Jen Psaki hit Ron DeSantis with one ultimatum that immediately backfired in a major way.
Democrats and the media launched a smear campaign against Florida Governor Ron DeSantis over legislation to protect parental involvement in their children’s education.
The media and Democrats falsely labeled the legislation the “Don’t Say Gay” bill claiming it would force homosexual students into the closet.
That was a lie.
The legislation forbids schools from teaching children in grades kindergarten through third grade about sexual orientation or so-called “transgender” issues.
Parents are concerned about radical activists brainwashing their kids with transgender ideology or exposing young children who don’t understand what is going on to the idea that they can pick and choose their gender on a whim.
The actual text of the bill reads:
Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.
Biden administration officials immediately seized on the corporate media lie about the “Don’t Say Gay” bill and threatened Florida with the loss of federal money unless Governor DeSantis bowed to the radical homosexual agenda in schools.
“[Joe Biden] and his Administration stand with LGBTQI+ students everywhere, including in Florida where they have passed hateful legislation targeting vulnerable students,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki posted on social media.
Biden administration Education Secretary Miguel Cardona doubled down on that message.
“Leaders in Florida are prioritizing hateful bills that hurt some of the students most in need,” Secretary Cardona declared. “The Department of Education has made clear that all schools receiving federal funding must follow federal civil rights law, including Title IX’s protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.”
Democrats and the media are lying about this bill because they think they can smear Ron DeSantis in the minds of swing voters as some kind of 1950s repressive by not embracing the supposedly “modern” views on gender identity and sexual orientation.
But that is bound to backfire.
In the Virginia gubernatorial election Republican Glenn Youngkin defeated Democrat Terry McAuliffe by focusing on parental rights in education and a backlash against woke ideology infecting classrooms.
