Joe Biden has a huge problem on his hands.
It is a mess of Biden’s own making.
And Joe Biden got blackmailed into making this controversial decision he will regret.
During a 2020 Democrat presidential debate in South Carolina, Joe Biden made a controversial promise to only consider race and gender when nominating Supreme Court justices.
Biden declared his intention to only consider a black woman as his first nominee.
“My — also, that everyone should be represented. Everyone — and no one’s better than me and I’m no better than anyone else. The fact is, what we should be doing — we talked about the Supreme Court. I’m looking forward to making sure there’s a black woman on the Supreme Court, to make sure we in fact get every representation,” Biden said during the debate.
Now that liberal Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer announced his retirement, Biden confirmed that he intends to choose a replacement based on their race and gender.
Americans now know how Biden came to this conclusion.
South Carolina Democrat Congressman James Clyburn told the Washington Post that he confronted Biden during that debate and demanded Biden pledge to nominate a black woman to the Supreme Court.
“Not a single time has a Black woman ever been seriously considered,” Clyburn stated. “And so I took that issue up with then candidate Biden back in 2020. Twenty that I thought that the time of the right for us to do something about that. How many times have you heard it said that black women are the backbone of the Democratic Party?”
“Well, you just can’t say you’ve got to show it. I happen to have been born and raised in the past, and I believe it’s their deeds that matter, not their words. And so President Biden made it a commitment at the Charleston debate back in February. Two years ago, and said that if he got the opportunity, he would appoint or nominate an African-American woman to serve on the court,” Clyburn added.
A book about the 2020 election revealed that Clyburn’s endorsement – which boosted Biden to the win in South Carolina that carried him to the nomination – hinged on Biden meeting Clyburn’s demand to promise a black female Supreme Court nominee.
“In their book ‘Lucky’, journalists Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes wrote that a frustrated Clyburn confronted Biden off-stage during a debate in February 2020 and urged him to pledge to nominate a Black woman to the nation’s highest court. Biden made the pledge later in the debate and received Clyburn’s endorsement the next day which many believe catapulted his struggling campaign to the front of the pack,” Fox News reported.
Biden’s promise to only nominate a black woman only served to taint the eventual nomination by centering the discussion and debate on the nominee over what amounts to an affirmative action program instead of their qualifications.
