Joe Biden says he wants to run for re-election in 2024.
But the choice may not be up to Biden.
And Joe Biden got hit with one deadline that could force him off the 2024 ballot.
A new Wall Street Journal poll found just 41 percent of Americans approved of Joe Biden as president with 57 percent disapproving.
The poll showed a whopping 66 percent of Independents giving Biden’s performance as president the thumbs down.
Joe Biden’s pollster John Anzalone conducted the survey with Trump pollster Tony Fabrizio.
Anzalone told the Journal that Biden’s miserable poll standing left Biden with just 12 months to turn his numbers around or else Democrats faced a rebuke at the polls in 2022.
“If it was Labor Day of 2022 with these numbers, then it’s a red warning light,’’ Anzalone told the Journal. “At this point in time, it’s really difficult. But guess what: You’ve got an entire year, and Democrats have tools in the tool kit to reverse the situation.”
Fabrizio expounded on that explaining that nearly 60 percent of Americans disapproving of Joe Biden resulted from buyer’s remorse among the electorate as voters felt hoodwinked by Biden campaigning as a moderate yet governing as a socialist.
“There’s now a difference between candidate Joe Biden and perceptions of what he was going to do, and President Joe Biden,” Fabrizio added. “He was going to beat Covid. We didn’t beat Covid, obviously. He was going to bring the country together, and obviously, the country isn’t together.…And people have economic concerns.”
This poll came on the heels of an I&I/TIPP survey showing just 22 percent of Americans – including only 37 percent of Democrats – wanting to see Joe Biden on the ticket in 2024.
Donald Trump looks like he is gearing up for a 2024 comeback bid.
The Wall Street Journal poll found Trump and Biden locked in a statistical tie.
However, the Journal poll showed 43 percent of Hispanic voters – including 56 percent of Hispanic men – supporting Trump in a matchup with Joe Biden.
Trump won over Latino voters by supporting law and order, opposing illegal immigration on the grounds it drove down wages for the working-class, fought the left’s woke political correctness and stood against COVID shutdowns and vaccine mandates.
Democrats’ number one issue – and the only issue they care about in the context of Donald Trump – is electability.
The party reluctantly chose Joe Biden in 2020 believing Biden was the strongest candidate to take on Trump.
If Joe Biden does not improve his poll standing by the midterms Democrats could push Biden aside to make sure the party has enough time to stage a nominating contest to vet the various candidates and choose a new nominee to run against Trump or whoever wins the GOP nomination if Trump somehow decides to take a pass on 2024.
In that sense, Anzalone’s 12-month warning to Joe Biden actually had little to do with the midterms and everything to do with the next presidential election.
