Democrats hoped Joe Biden was on the verge of a political comeback.
That line of thinking just blew up in their faces.
And Joe Biden just got smacked with some bad news that left Democrats fearing the worst.
Many in the media began trying to manufacture a narrative that Joe Biden’s State of the Union address and the Russian invasion of Ukraine set the stage for Joe Biden to turn around his sagging political fortunes.
But that turned out to be wishcasting on the part of Biden’s cheerleaders in the corporate media.
That’s because a brand-new Wall Street Journal poll found Biden’s numbers unchanged from their last survey in November.
And that is a disaster for Biden and the Democrats as just 42 percent of Americans approved of Biden’s job as president with a whopping 57 percent disapproving.
“The new survey showed that 57% of voters remained unhappy with Mr. Biden’s job performance, despite favorable marks for the president’s response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine and a recent State of the Union speech, which provided him an opportunity to directly speak to millions of Americans. Just 42% said they approved of Mr. Biden’s performance in office, which was virtually unchanged from the previous Journal poll in mid-November,” the Wall Street Journal reported.
The news got worse from there.
Fifty percent of voters listed inflation as the number one issue.
And the Wall Street Journal poll found a super majority of voters disapproving of Biden’s handling of the issue.
The poll also found voters decisively preferred Republicans’ plan on the economy to those of Democrats.
“A majority of voters, 63%, said they disapproved of Mr. Biden’s handling of rising costs, the president’s worst rating on six policy issues surveyed in the poll. Meanwhile, 47% of voters said Republicans were better able to handle inflation, compared with 30% who preferred Democrats,” the Journal reported.
The midterm elections are decided on two main metrics: voters’ view of the president and their impression of the economy.
This poll showing voters massively disapproving of Biden and his handling of inflation explains why Republicans hold a five-point lead over Democrats on the issue of which party Americans want to see controlling Congress.
But that wasn’t even the worst news for Democrats.
That came in the form of minority voters – who form the foundation of the Democrat Party coalition – fleeing the party.
Hispanics favor Republicans over Democrats by nine points.
“The survey also found Republicans making gains among minority groups. By 9 percentage points, Hispanic voters in the new poll said they would back a Republican candidate for Congress over a Democrat. The two parties had been tied among Hispanic voters in the Journal’s survey in November,” the Journal reported.
This flight of Hispanics towards the GOP is an acceleration of a trend that began with Donald Trump making inroads with Latino voters in 2020 due to his support for law enforcement, push to end COVID lockdowns, and opposition to the violent Black Lives Matter movement.
But most disturbingly for Democrats, black voter support for Republicans more than doubled.
“Democratic margins also eroded among Black voters, who favored a Democrat for Congress by 35 percentage points in the new survey, down from 56 points in November. Support for a Republican candidate rose to 27% among Black voters, up from 12% in November,” the Journal also reported.
Democrats depend on winning 90 percent of the black vote.
Any drop in that support represents a flashing red light of danger for Democrats.
And this poll shows Democrats are on the verge of an electoral landslide defeat this November.
