Joe Biden and his campaign got some bad news.
The former Vice President hoped to solve some of the major issues surrounding his campaign with his selection of a running mate.
But Joe Biden just got turned down by his top choice to be vice president.
Joe Biden promised to select a woman running mate.
And there is clearly one female running mate that is his top selection.
That would be former First Lady Michelle Obama.
In an interview with a CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh, Biden once again expressed his feeling that Michelle Obama would be his first choice to serve as his running mate.
“I’d take her in a heartbeat,” Biden stated. “She’s brilliant. She knows the way around. She is a really fine woman. The Obamas are great friends.”
But Biden also added that Michelle Obama would turn him down for the job.
“I don’t think she has any desire to live near the White House again,” the former Vice President explained.
Many Democrats are begging Michelle Obama to reconsider.
They know few voters are enthusiastic about Joe Biden’s candidacy and that Michelle Obama on the ticket would instantly fix that problem.
“When former Vice President Biden said he would choose a woman, she’s considered by most Americans of all races and all economic backgrounds to be the ultimate woman,” Reverend Al Sharpton told POLITICO in an interview. “Look at her book sales. It’s the first time I’ve seen someone write a book that can fill arenas. She has packed more arenas than Donald Trump.”
Sharpton revealed he even broached the subject with Obama the last time the two spoke and that Obama forcefully denied any interest in serving as Biden’s running mate.
“I asked her when I last saw her and she seemed emphatic that she was not going to do it. I doubt if she does it,” Sharpton said, adding that he began praying she would change her mind after the recent encounter.
Obama confidante Valerie Jarrett explained to POLITICO why Michelle Obama had no interest in securing a place on the ticket as the vice presidential nominee.
“It’s about more than winning the election. You have to govern. And if your heart isn’t in what it takes to do the work of being the vice president, then you shouldn’t do it. You shouldn’t do it just to win,” Jarrett declared. “She could potentially help a lot more people using her current platform rather than joining a political office.”
Joe Biden’s other choices for vice president are far less appealing.
Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren were also-rans in the presidential primary.
Had Warren or Harris excited voters, they would have finished stronger.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer badly damaged her prospects with a botched and tyrannical response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The only slam dunk choice for Biden is Michelle Obama and she has no interest in the position.
