Kamala Harris is the newest rising star within the Democratic Party.
The California Senator and left-wing progressive is aiming to be the party’s next presidential nominee.
But one really bad decision could leave Harris in ruins.
Kamala Harris is aiming to be the new face of the Democratic Party.
The California Senator has amassed one of the most left-wing voting records out of all 100 members of the United States Senate, and she now has set her sights on the White House itself.
Harris announced her bid for the presidency in January and she immediately catapulted her way to the top of the Democratic primary’s leaderboards.
Harris has also amassed a large war chest since launching her bid for the presidency.
All of this, coupled with her extensive political connections and status as a liberal senator from the largest Democratic state in the country has made her one of the strongest candidates to take on President Trump in November 2020.
But Harris has one major hurdle to overcome first.
She has to win the nomination.
Her path to doing so is clear, at the moment, but it’s about to get much more complicated.
The Hill reports, “Joe Biden has a campaign-in-waiting as soon as he decides to launch a White House bid.”
If Biden gets into the race, he could ruin Harris’ path to the White House.
And it looks increasingly like the former Vice President will do just that.
“In recent weeks, the former vice president’s longtime advisers Steve Ricchetti and Mike Donilon have led a string of meetings with potential aides to fill out the campaign if Biden makes a decision to enter the race,” according to The Hill.
Harris’ path to the nomination runs right through Joe Biden and his supporters and donors.
The two may have a lot of differences, but their bases of support are very similar.
The fact is that Harris needs Biden’s volunteers, supporters, donors, and network in order to win the Democratic nomination.
And if Biden jumps into the race, that would cut off Harris’ access to all of them.
Biden’s impending entry into the crowded Democratic field could spell political doom for Kamala Harris, who has so far been banking on the former Vice President not opting to throw his hat in the ring and make a run for the nomination.
But with all signs pointing increasingly to Biden inching towards a run, Harris has to hope that he makes a last-minute decision to stay out of the race.
With so many other candidates running right now, every addition to the field makes the stakes much higher and makes each candidate’s path to victory so much more difficult.
“Whenever the VP makes a decision, we’ll be ready to go,” said one source with direct knowledge of the planning behind Biden’s potential run for the White House.
However, Biden winning the nomination could prove costly for Democrats.
Biden could alienate key Democrat voting constituencies because he authored the 1994 crime bill.
Hillary Clinton’s past support for the bill crippled her ability to supercharge black and young voter turnout which many believe cost her the election.
Biden may meet a similar fate if he is the Democrat nominee in 2020.
Do you think Joe Biden will run for president? Will he block Kamala Harris’ path to the nomination?
