Kamala Harris is in big trouble.
This problem is not going away.
And Kamala Harris got some bad news from Joe Biden’s top lawyer.
Harris’ disastrous trip to Central America to address the “root causes” of illegal immigration turned a crisis into a fiasco.
In the month of May, the Border Patrol intercepted 180,000 illegal border crossings, the most in 21 years.
That came after April saw the most illegal border crossings in 20 years.
Polls show Americans gives Joe Biden his lowest numbers on the issue of immigration and the border.
That’s because even leaders in Central America blame Joe Biden’s open borders policies and rhetoric for the surge in illegal border crossings.
Biden sent the message that now is the time to come by promising to reunite families and eliminating Donald Trump’s successful border policies such as safe third-party agreements with Central American countries and the “Remain in Mexico”protocols.
Democrats are terrified the unfolding crisis at the border will lead to a Tea Party-style wave in next year’s midterm elections and sweep out the left’s majorities in the House and Senate.
That’s why Harris tried to sharpen her message at the tail end of her disastrous Central America trip imploring residents of the Northern Triangle not to come to America.
“I want to be clear to folks in this region who are thinking about making that dangerous trek to the United States-Mexico border: Do not come. Do not come,” Harris stated.
Within a day that was all undone.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tore into Harris for straying from the open borders message.
“This is disappointing to see,” Ocasio-Cortez posted on social media.
“First, seeking asylum at any US border is a 100% legal method of arrival,” Ocasio-Cortez added,”Second, the US spent decades contributing to regime change and destabilization in Latin America. We can’t help set someone’s house on fire and then blame them for fleeing,” she continued.
Fear of a rebellion on the left led to a swift reversal by the Biden administration.
Attorney General Merrick Garland undercut Harris’ “do not come” message under questioning from Tennessee Republican Senator Bill Haggerty.
Garland claimed there were many ways to talk about illegal immigration beyond “do not come.”
“I think that Vice President Harris has been very deeply involved in the kind of law enforcement and other requirements that we’re looking to set up. She was instrumental in moving us to establish this joint task force to de-incentivize and to reduce traffic from the Northern Triangle countries, down through Mexico, into the United States. So there are a lot of different messaging kind of issues involved, and some of them involve getting at the root causes of why people are leaving in those countries,” Garland stated.
Harris herself also reversed course in an interview with Spanish language news outlet EFE saying that the U.S. border was open to illegal aliens looking to exploit America’s asylum laws.
“The vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris, softened on Thursday the harsh message that she had sent to potential migrants during her trip this week to Guatemala and Mexico, assuring that she is ‘committed’ to ensuring that her country will be a ‘safe haven’for those seeking asylum,” EFE reported.
Harris’ trip was a disaster on every front.
The only promising message – Harris telling illegal aliens not to come to the United States – was reversed in a matter of hours because of angry tweets from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
