Democrats are working overtime to take back the Senate.
They are desperate to put a stop to Trump’s momentum.
But a new poll just dropped in the wake of the Kavanaugh fight and handed a major Democrat the worst news possible.
Democrats Looking For Hope In Texas
Texas is a solidly red state.
A Democrat hasn’t won a statewide office since 1994.
Republicans look at Texas as an easy win since Democrats have largely ignored the state as unwinnable.
But Democrat Rep. Beto O’Rourke changed all that.
He has raised over $23 million in his race against Republican Senator Ted Cruz.
Additionally, he has a campaign team in every corner of the state.
Democrats are pushing hard for him.
And with new polls showing a tight race between O’Rourke and Cruz, they see him as their hope to swing Texas blue.
One Major Problem For Democrats
There’s only one problem for the Democrats in the Texas race.
Their polling is flawed.
The polls they cite are of registered voters.
But the only realistic group to poll is likely voters—they are the ones who show up on Election Day.
The polls that show Beto close to Cruz are actually few and far between.
And a new poll destroys any hope Democrats thought they had in Texas.
A brand new CBS/YouGov poll shows Cruz leading O’Rourke by 6 points, 50-44.
Democrats Underestimate Texas
At the end of the day, Texas is still one of the most conservative states in the country.
Texans don’t believe in the same things O’Rourke does.
He supports socialist-leaning economic policies.
When it comes to economic regulations, Texas is one of the freest states in the country.
They don’t even have a state income tax.
If O’Rourke won the Senate, he would certainly support increased taxes.
He’s also a firm supporter of gun control.
He supports so-called “assault weapon” bans and an increased gun registration data base.
Texans proudly tout their support for the Second Amendment.
In contrast, Ted Cruz supports the Second Amendment and supports free market solutions to economic issues.
The Democrats can try to play around with polling numbers to make it seem like O’Rourke can win, but unless he drastically changes his platform, there’s little chance.
Do you think Beto O’Rourke will beat Ted Cruz?
