FBI Director James Comey’s public comments which blasted Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information were a political bombshell.
The left accused him of stealing the 2016 election.
But the real reason Comey made the announcement was because of Loretta Lynch and her cover-up.
Comey’s hand was forced by email hacks.
The intelligence community became aware that hacked emails contained documents showing Loretta Lynch was running a cover-up on Hillary Clinton’s email server.
The emails were set to become public and would have exposed that the Obama administration had tried to ensure the investigation ended up clearing Hillary Clinton.
The New York Times reports:
“During Russia’s hacking campaign against the United States, intelligence agencies could peer, at times, into Russian networks and see what had been taken. Early last year, F.B.I. agents received a batch of hacked documents, and one caught their attention.
The document, which has been described as both a memo and an email, was written by a Democratic operative who expressed confidence that Ms. Lynch would keep the Clinton investigation from going too far, according to several former officials familiar with the document.
Read one way, it was standard Washington political chatter. Read another way, it suggested that a political operative might have insight into Ms. Lynch’s thinking.
Normally, when the F.B.I. recommends closing a case, the Justice Department agrees and nobody says anything. The consensus in both places was that the typical procedure would not suffice in this instance, but who would be the spokesman?
The document complicated that calculation, according to officials. If Ms. Lynch announced that the case was closed, and Russia leaked the document, Mr. Comey believed it would raise doubts about the independence of the investigation.”
The document reveals Loretta Lynch’s plan was to cover up Hillary’s investigation and hide its seriousness from the American people.
Breitbart reports that Lynch would repeatedly mischaracterize the investigation:
“According to the Times, Comey feared that Lynch — who had insisted the Clinton probe be referred to as a “matter” and not as an “investigation,” and who suggested it the investigation was not criminal when, in fact, it was — would declare the case closed, and then Russian hackers would leak the document to undermine the FBI’s image of independence.
The Times notes: “Mr. Comey’s defenders regard this as one of the untold stories of the Clinton investigation, one they say helps explain his decision-making.” And if a local news reporter in Phoenix had not caught Lynch meeting with former President Bill Clinton, she might have succeeded in sheltering the Clintons even more effectively than she had.”
Clinton supporters howled that Comey’s public comments about Hillary – made just days before the election – d tipped the election.
But Comey was left little choice.
Had the hackers made the documents in their possession public, the FBI would have looked like they were running a phony investigation.
While liberals whine about Comey’s conduct during the election, conservatives rightfully point out that none of this would have happened had Hillary Clinton followed the law in the first place.
