Taken together, those polls and policy failures set the table for an easy decision for a 78-year-old president in clear cognitive decline to step aside in 2024 and let the Democrats pick a new candidate.
In a normal time, the next in line would be the vice president.
But in this case the vice president is the famously incompetent and historically unpopular Kamala Harris.
Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign ended in humiliation as Harris dropped out of the race around Thanksgiving 2019 due to the fact that her polling flatlined and Harris’ fundraising evaporated.
After Biden picked her as his running mate, Harris flopped in office failing as the administration’s border czar and her approval rating sits at 28 percent.
Democrats assessed Harris’ performance on the national stage since declaring her candidacy for president in 2019 and judged Harris a failure.
The latest evidence of that is a McLaughlin and Associates poll showing Michelle Obama as the number one choice for Democrats for president in 2024 if Joe Biden does not run for president.

The sitting vice president should be a broadly popular figure in their party.
And that candidate should lap the field in a national primary poll that is based mainly on name recognition.
Harris only registers 16 percent of the vote.
Michelle Obama’s repeatedly denied any interest in running for president.
But if Joe Biden does not run for re-election this poll shows the field for an anti-Kamala Harris candidate to win the GOP nomination.
