With Donald Trump kicking off his re-election campaign the Democrat Party is not about to give up its campaign message of making January 6 their number one issue.
CBS “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert interviewed Michelle Obama and made sure to keep the January 6 messaging front and center by asking Obama about what was going through her mind when she watched the events of January 6 play out.
“I don’t think you and I have had a chance to talk about this yet, but there you are, you and your husband, after your eight years of service, you are citizens at home, watching January 6 unfold. Like everybody else but of course, these are your colleagues. This is the place you used to work. You know those people, that is a very familiar area to you. What was it like for you? I know this is a very broad question, but what was it like to sit there with your husband and to watch that unfold?” Colbert asked.
Obama stuck to the Democrat Party script and hammered home the false claim that Donald Trump incited an insurrection on January 6.
“It was sad. It was— it was— it was deeply, deeply disappointing, disheartening, but it wasn’t completely surprising. I mean, we were— with the language, the behavior, we were creeping towards some kind of chaotic moment. We talked about it throughout the entire election. I was very clear that the person running against Hillary Clinton was not up to the job, that it was going to be chaotic, that the job of president is not a joke, and that it would cause problems. We were just bracing for what was that big thing going to be. What was— how bad would it get? And to see citizens storming through the Capitol, it was surreal, and it was frightening and deeply, deeply disappointing,” Obama stated.
Democrats believe overhyped lies about Trump Republicans threatening to end democracy were key to the party’s surprising performance in the 2022 midterm elections.
Swing voters bought into the falsehoods that this would be the last election in American history if Republicans won which appears to have convinced fence-sitters to pick Democrats in key races.
Trump running for re-election makes it more likely Joe Biden will seek a second term.
But Biden will be 82 in 2024 and growing ever more senile by the day.
Biden is also highly unpopular.
Democrats know Biden can’t win re-election based on his job performance or voters judging his fitness to serve as president.
So, if Trump is the GOP nominee in 2024 Obama is telegraphing that Democrats will ramp up the lies about how a Trump win in 2024 will spell the end of the American experiment.
