Michelle Obama was the worst First Lady in American history.
But her disastrous legacy did not end the day she left the White House.
She made one decision that ended up being the biggest embarrassment of her life.
The Obamas unveiled their official portraits to much media fanfare.
Like most liberals, the Obamas are consumed with identity politics, so they chose artists based on “representation” as opposed to the quality of their work.
Politico reports:
“Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama stressed the importance of art that represents overlooked groups at the unveiling Monday of their portraits at the National Portrait Gallery.
Obama said he and the artist who painted him, Kehinde Wiley, were both raised by single mothers and yearned to learn more about their absent fathers. Wiley depicted Obama seated in front of a wall of green plants.
“What I was struck by whenever I saw his portraits was the degree to which they challenged our conventional views of power and privilege,” Obama said of Wiley’s work. “He would take extraordinary care and precision, vision in recognizing the beauty and the grace and the dignity of people who are so often invisible in our lives.”
Amy Sherald, the artist chosen for Michelle Obama’s portrait, said the dress she depicted the former first lady wearing resembled artwork created by women living in Gee’s Bend, a small Alabama community.
“I’m also thinking about all of the young people, particularly girls and girls of color, who in years ahead will come to this place, and they will look up, and they will see an image of someone who looks like them hanging on the wall of this great American institution,” Michelle Obama said.”
Choosing two artists based on their bona fides as social justice warriors did not work out well.
Michelle Obama’s portrait was roundly mocked on social media because it looked nothing like her.
