There is no more pretending.
Former Vice President Mike Pence and Donald Trump are locked in a blood feud.
And now Mike Pence committed this unforgivable betrayal that will leave Donald Trump speechless.
There is no primary in America Donald Trump would rather see his candidate emerge victorious than the Georgia gubernatorial primary.
Trump’s endorsement single-handedly won Brian Kemp the Republican nomination in 2018 and Trump campaigned heavily for Kemp that fall and played a massive role in dragging Kemp across the finish line and defeating far-left Democrat Stacey Abrams.
But Trump turned on Kemp after Kemp said Georgia law mandates the government certify the results of the 2020 election where Joe Biden won the state by 12,000 votes.
Trump said there was a massive voter fraud, but when Kemp said there was nothing he could do Trump set about recruiting a primary challenger.
Former Senator David Perdue answered Trump’s call and mounted a primary campaign against Kemp.
But polls show Kemp is far ahead of Perdue and likely to win over 50 percent of the vote meaning Kemp will avoid a one-on-one runoff contest against Perdue.
Twisting the knife even deeper for Trump is the fact that Never Trumpers and RINOs within the GOP see Kemp’s impending win as a chance to damage Trump’s standing in the Republican Party.
Never Trump former President George W. Bush and RINOs Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie gleefully campaigned for Kemp ahead of the primary.
But the one Republican swooping in to boost Kemp at the last minute that will gall Trump the most is former Vice President Mike Pence.
Pence’s former chief of staff Marc Short was already on board with Kemp.
But now Pence declared open war against Trump by announcing a pre-primary campaign stop with Kemp.
Pence wrote that Kemp “is one of the most successful conservative governors in America. He built a safer and stronger Georgia by cutting taxes, empowering parents and investing in teachers, funding law enforcement, and standing strong for the right to life.”
The former vice president declared that Kemp “is my friend, a man dedicated to faith, family and the people of Georgia. I am proud to offer my full support for four more years of Brian Kemp as governor of the great state of Georgia!”
Governor Kemp did deliver on numerous conservative priorities.
In 2019 Kemp signed into law a six-week abortion ban that is one of the toughest in the country.
Back in April 2020 Kemp was the first governor to re-open his state and reject Dr. Fauci’s lockdowns.
And Kemp recently signed “Constitutional Carry,” which eliminates the requirement that Georgia residents obtain a concealed carry permit to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
It was always going to be an uphill battle to unseat a sitting governor.
Since 1996 just five incumbent governors lost primaries.
Mike Pence is planning to run for president against Donald Trump in 2024.
And Pence read the polls and thinks his chance to fire the first salvo in the 2024 Republican presidential primary was supporting the one candidate Donald Trump most wanted to defeat.
