Mike Pence is preparing to take on Donald Trump in the 2024 GOP presidential primary.
But Pence got some bad news.
And that’s because Mike Pence got blindsided by a double-cross from one unexpected source.
RINO former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is one of the establishment Republicans looking to wrest control of the GOP back from Donald Trump and his grassroots conservative supporters.
After the events of January 6, Haley tried to push Trump out of the Republican Party using the corporate media narrative that Trump incited an insurrection.
However, when polling data showed the GOP base refused to buy into CNN and Nancy Pelosi’s talking points about that day Haley backtracked and announced she would not run for president in 2024 if Trump announced a re-election campaign.
Mike Pence is not waiting around on Donald Trump to make up his mind on 2024.
By all accounts, Pence is planning a 2024 White House bid even if Donald Trump enters the race.
And Pence made clear where the battle lines were drawn during a speech at the Federalist Society.
Pence declared that not only was Donald Trump “wrong” that Pence had the authority to reject certified results from the Electoral College, but that Trump asking Pence to do so was “un-American.”
“There are those in our party who believe that as the presiding officer over the joint session of Congress, that I possess unilateral authority to reject Electoral College votes. And I heard this week that President Trump said I had the right to overturn the election,” Pence began.
“But President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election. The presidency belongs to the American people, and the American people alone. And frankly, there’s no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president,” Pence added.
Nikki Haley, who would likely compete with Pence in the establishment lane of a GOP presidential primary, surprised everyone by disagreeing with Pence in that she felt it was wrong for Pence to attack Trump.
“Mike Pence is a good man. He’s an honest man. I think he did what he thought was right on that day. But I will always say, I just, I’m not a fan of Republicans going against Republicans. The only ones that win when that happens are the Democrats and the media. And we have to keep our eyes on 2022, we’ve gotta get the majority back in the House, we’ve gotta get it in the Senate and we’ve got a lot of governors’ races to win,” Haley told Fox News.
Few believe that Haley actually disagrees with Pence that Trump’s request on January 6 was “un-American.”
Haley viciously and unfairly attacked Trump as a voice of anger and division in the 2016 campaign.
But Haley is a political chameleon who will adapt her persona to whatever she thinks the moment demands.
When she ran for governor of South Carolina in 2010 Haley pretended to be a Tea Party champion.
After Donald Trump picked Haley to serve as his U.N. ambassador, Haley morphed into a voice for the neocon establishment that undermined Trump at every turn.
Now Nikki Haley thinks she needs to be seen as a Trump supporter to maintain viability for a future White House run after completely misreading the mood of the GOP electorate following January 6.
And that is why Nikki Haley is going after Donald Trump.
