Utah RINO Mitt Romney has never been known as a loyal Republican.
Romney did everything in his power to defeat Donald Trump including voting twice to convict Trump in the Democrats’ impeachment hoaxes.
But now Mitt Romney is about to get kicked out of the GOP after the dirty trick he just pulled.
Democrats are trying to maintain their Senate majority in underhanded fashion.
The party did not field a candidate to run against conservative Utah Senator Mike Lee because anyone with a “D” next to their name is automatically unelectable.
However, Democrats recruited Never Trump deadbeat Evan McMullin to run as an “independent” candidate against Lee.
McMullin is claiming he is a moderate centrist and won’t say which party he will caucus with.
In reality, McMullin will caucus with Democrats and will serve as a 100 percent vote for the left’s agenda.
McMullin supports gun control, abortion, critical race theory, confirming radical leftist and pedophile-tolerating Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, elements of the Green New Deal, and voted for Joe Biden in 2020.
Yet what is giving McMullin’s campaign life is the fact that Mitt Romney is giving moderate Republicans permission to vote for McMullin by not endorsing Lee.
Romney is the only one of Lee’s other 48 Senate Republican colleagues not to endorse Lee’s re-election campaign.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Lee claimed Romney said he would not endorse Lee because he is also friends with McMullin.
“He’s explained that he’s got two friends in this race,” Lee stated. “When he first told me that, my reaction was, who’s the other friend? And therefore, he wants to remain neutral. Look, I understand it, I respect it. Here’s what’s going on: my opponent Evan McMullin is a Democrat running in disguise.”
Lee explained that since McMullin is an undercover Democrat, if McMullin wins the race Democrats will maintain the majority and all the policies Romney supposedly supports will never get a vote.
“If I’m right on that, he needs to get on board because that’s exactly what he’ll be producing,” Lee added. “That’s exactly what this will lead to if Utah gets tricked into electing Evan McMullin – a closeted Democrat – into the United States Senate. And so, as soon as Mitt Romney’s ready to, I will eagerly accept his endorsement.”
Lee urged Romney to support his campaign so Republicans could hold the majority.
“Mitt, if you’d like to protect the Republican majority, give us any chance of seizing the Republican majority once again — getting it away from the Democrats who are facilitating this massive spending spree and a massive inflationary binge — please, get on board. Help me win reelection. Help us do that,” Lee concluded.
But Romney made it clear he would rather Democrats hold the majority if it meant getting rid of a conservative Trump supporter.
A source close to Romney told POLITICO that Lee was on his own.
“Mike Lee is on the ballot and owns his record and his campaign. The notion that Mitt Romney could win or lose this race for him is laughable,” the source relayed to POLITICO.
Mitt Romney is up for re-election in 2024.
To be clear, sitting senators simply do not work to defeat their colleagues from the same party.
Romney is sure to face a Trump-endorsed challenger who will be either former Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz or Attorney General Sean Reyes.
Normally the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Mitch McConnell’s Super PAC defend incumbents from primary challenges.
But since Romney is actively working to keep Democrats in the majority the GOP establishment could very well sit on their hands and let Romney lose as a form of payback.
