The Washington swamp will never give up on getting rid of Donald Trump.
Now they may have found a full proof plan.
And it involved Mitt Romney making the most horrible decision of his life.
Every four years, some D.C. pundit will float the idea of a “bipartisan” unity ticket.
Fake news reporters, think-tank intellectuals and swamp monsters love these tickets – where a Democrat is always at the top – as a way to make sure conservatives are shut out in the Presidential election.
Now that Donald Trump is set to run for re-election in 2020, the swamp is hedging their bets by promoting the fantasy of Joe Biden-Mitt Romney “dream” ticket.
The Democrats’ field is going to be wide open.
Up to 30 candidates may run.
But it will be a combination of either too old, too radical, or too white for a party obsessed with identity politics.
For all the fake news bravado about Trump’s low approval numbers, the Democrats will still likely field a weak candidate to run against Trump at a time of peace and prosperity.
And since 1900, voters have only turned a duly-elected incumbent four times when they ran for re-election.
However, the swamp knows that in two of those races – 1912 and 1992 – there was a credible third party candidate to siphon votes away from the GOP incumbent.
In 1912, Theodore Roosevelt ran as an independent Bull Moose Party candidate.
His entry into the race allowed Democrat Woodrow Wilson to oust Republican President William Howard Taft.
In 1992, businessman Ross Perot won 19 percent of the vote which allowed Bill Clinton to sneak into the White House with just 43 percent of the vote.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise to see Washington swamp creatures pining for a viable third party candidacy to deny Trump a second term.
Juleanna Glover – who worked as a “Republican” advisor to George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and John McCain, but now sits on the board of the Biden Policy Institute – put forth the idea in a Politico op-ed.
She suggested that Joe Biden team up with Mitt Romney in 2020 to form a swamp critters ‘all-star’ ticket.
Glover wrote:
“Biden could run as the major third-party candidate with a principled conservative by his side (Lieberman, a one-time Democrat, technically categorized himself as an independent at the time McCain ran for president). A number of Republicans stand out: Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse, outgoing Ohio Gov. John Kasich and newly minted Utah Sen. Mitt Romney. Many past third-party bids have failed because they came from the lunatic fringes—think Jill Stein and Ralph Nader of the Green Party or Ross Perot with his quirky North American Free Trade Agreement obsession. Biden, by picking someone from the principled wing of the GOP, would instantly signal that he intends to run from the center.”
Would Biden and Romney be willing to take on this Kamikaze mission?
If it looks like Trump is a sure bet to win re-election, no one would be shocked if the swamp tries to foist a third party candidacy on the electorate.
It’s how the left put Bill Clinton in the White House for two terms.
Glover writes that a Biden-Romney administration could ‘solve’ – i.e. impose the left’s agenda – issues like so-called “climate change,” immigration, gun control, and globalist trade deals.
Trump rejects the fake Washington bi-partisan consensus on communist command-and-control policies to fight “global warming” and passing amnesty and trade deals that send America’s jobs and wealth to foreign countries.
The swamp knows a second Trump term will cement the conservative grassroots takeover of the GOP and put the party in permanent opposition to the globalist agenda.
So if it comes down to a “break glass in case of emergency” scenario where it looks like Trump can dispatch his Democrat challenger, expect the chattering classes in Washington to pump up the volume on calls for a credible third party challenger to jump into the race in an attempt to cost Trump the White House.
